Under Spain’s new prgram, all shrt and medium train rides are free — with the right ticket — prviding the perfect pprtunity t see Catalnia, Andalucia and the Basque Cuntry. Turists can take advantage f the discunts, which have been brught in t help the ppulatin deal with the cst f living crisis, if they buy multi-jurney tickets. “I’d like the peple f Spain t knw that I’m fully aware f the daily difficulties that mst peple have,” a senir fficial said. “I knw salaries cver less and less and that it’s difficult t get t the end f the mnth.” The cuntry’s Ministry f Transprt said the measure wuld help peple get t wrk safely as fuel prices cntinue t rise sharply.
Spain jins Germany in cutting the price f public transprt, with the latter cuntry launching a ticket csting €9 which gives a full mnth f travel frm June until the end f August. Austria has started ffering a climate ticket, which allws peple t cmplete jurneys fr just €3. When it was first launched last year, the ppularity f the ticket almst caused its website t crash. The UK gvernment has nt annunced any plans t encurage the use f trains, despite the seriusness f the climate crisis and the damage petrl and diesel cars cause. Tday, many peple spend a lt f time reading nline. Whether reading news r e-bks, peple are spending mre time staring at screens. While nline reading pens up a great deal f knwledge t peple, there are sme disadvantages t, such as tired eyes, headaches, as well as difficulty in fcusing n the text. Nw a new reading system, Binic Reading develped by a Swiss cmpany, can help peple vercme these issues, and mst imprtantly, it aims t help peple read faster nline and develp a mre in-depth understanding f the cntent.
The reading system imprves the reading prcess by guiding the eyes thrugh the text with artificial fixatin pints. In shrt, sme parts f the wrds are displayed in bld (粗体的). As a result, the reader nly fcuses n the highlighted letters and lets the brain center cmplete the rest. Yur brain can “read” faster than yur eyes, s by reducing the number f letters yur eye needs t lk at, yu can read faster while still preserving the full cntext.
The cmpany discvered the system by accident. They were wrking n designing a bk in a freign language and realized they culd read it if they sectined it ff. They wrked fr six years t develp Binic Reading and are still wrking t adjust it.
An early study was cnducted but mre research is needed befre it can be definitively shwn that the system imprves reading. Sme peple with ADHD (注意缺陷多动障碍) have prved that Binic Reading helps them fcus and understand what they are reading. Other peple dn’t seem t ntice a big difference cmpared t the regular text. There’s als n evidence t suggest Binic Reading is any better than the regular text. The best way t knw if Binic Reading helps yu read better nline is t try it yurself.

Organic (不使用化肥的) farmers prduce fd with least help frm pesticides (杀虫剂), but in limiting the use f chemicals n their wn land, they may be unknwingly causing an increase in pesticide use ver their neighbur’s fence (栅栏).
Ashley Larsen at the University f Califrnia and her clleagues lked int land-use and pesticide data acrss 14,000 fields in Kern Cunty, Califrnia. The researchers fund that when rganic farmland is surrunded by cnventinal (传统的) agriculture, neighburing farmers seem t increase their pesticide use, with a 10% rise in rganic crpland being linked t a 0.3% increase in ttal pesticide use n cnventinal fields. Mst f this is driven by greater use f pesticides, the researchers fund.
This may be because mre insects tend t live n rganic land and spill ver int neighburing fields, causing cnventinal farmers there t increase pesticide use, accrding t Larsen. The effect appears strngest when neighburing fields are within 2.5 kilmetres f the rganic “fcal field”.
Hwever, the researchers nted that the presence f rganic farmland is linked t a reductin in pesticide use n neighburing rganic fields, with a 10% increase in the area f nearby rganic crpland being related t a 3% decrease in ttal pesticide use n rganic fcal fields. This may be because the larger area f rganic farmland allws fr a bigger and mre stable (稳定的) cmmunity f beneficial insects.
When rganic agriculture makes up a high rate f farmland—perhaps 20% r mre—net pesticide use decreases n matter where the rganic fields are sited, say the researchers. But when small areas f rganic farmland—like in Kern Cunty, where abut 5.5% f agricultural land is rganic—evenly spread thrugh the landscape, net pesticide use may in fact be higher than when n rganic farming is present.
Hwever, this impact can be sftened by bunching up rganic farmland. Larsen said, “It might be wrth cnsidering hw t encurage the cncentratin f new rganic fields t basically take full advantage f its pest cntrl benefits and limit the csts f being rganic t cnventinal grwers.
    12. What’s the influence f rganic farmland n neighburing cnventinal fields?
    A. A decrease in prductin.B. An increase in pesticide use.
C A decrease in insect ppulatin.D. An increase in beneficial insects.
    13. What is key t reducing ttal pesticide use in an area accrding t paragraph 4?
    A. The stability and ppulatin f beneficial insects.
    B. The farmers’ chice f crps t grw.
    C. The lcatin f the smallest rganic farmland.
    D. The ppulatin f rganic farmers.
    14. What des the underlined part “bunching up” in the last paragraph mean?
    A. Lking int.B. Clearing away.C. Setting up.D. Jining tgether.
    15. What is the primary fcus f the researchers’ study mentined in the text?
    A. The ecnmic impact f rganic farming.
    B. The envirnmental benefits f rganic farming.
    C. The relatinship between rganic farming and pesticide use.
D The value f rganic prduce cmpared with the cnventinal.
