When I was in senir high schl, I was scared f writing applicatin letters. One f my biggest fears was the fear f rejectin. Keeping myself in a safe space and ding things that I knw I can perfrm well was my favrite pastime. But I knew I had t make a change, s I tried t apply fr the cllege myself.
When I received the first reply letter, I was taking a class then. My heart was beating wildly while I waited fr the schl internet t cnnect faster. When I saw the letter starting with “Thank yu fr yur applicatin. After a careful review...”, I felt my face grwing htter. Althugh it was a cllege I was nt thinking f ging t even if I did get in, I was heart-brken.
This fear is applicable anywhere else: the fear f having yur prjects r ideas rejected r even the fear f being rejected frm yur friend grup, t name but a few. I cannt tell yu hw many times I passed up the pprtunity because I always thught there were better applicants ut there, and fr this reasn, I missed ut n s many pprtunities t grw.
Even nwadays, when I get a rejectin letter frm a schlarship applicatin, I have the same immediate reactin, n matter hw many rejectins I’ve gne thrugh. But the aftermath(创伤) des get easier Every time I am rejected, I am able t bunce back and hand in anther applicatin mre quickly. Alng the jurney f rejectins, I realize that I am nt incmpetent, but that everyne else maybe mre capable. And that is kay.

Many appraches invlve reinfrcement learning, where an AI interacts with an envirnment nline-which can include ther AIs r humans—and is rewarded fr making decisins that lead t desired utcmes. Ggle Deep Mind’s prgram Alpha G, fr example, learned the bard game G using reinfrcement learning.
But starting training an AI frm zer t interact with peple thrugh cmplete trial and errr can waste a lt f time and can be risky. Anther chice is t train ne AI t mdel human behavir, and then use that as a tireless human replacement fr anther AI t learn t interact with. Researchers have used this methd in a simple game. But repeating human behavir in mre cmplex settings can be difficult.
Thus in the study, researchers used ffline reinfrcement learning—a methd fr develping strategies by analyzing recrded behavir rather than thrugh real-time interactin. Previusly, ffline reinfrcement learning had been used mstly t help virtual rbts mve r t help AIs slve mazes (迷宫), but here it was applied t the tricky prblem f wrking with humans. Instead f learning by interacting with peple, this A I learned by watching human interactins.

When I was in senir high schl, I was scared f writing applicatin letters. One f my biggest fears was the fear f rejectin. Keeping myself in a safe space and ding things that I knw I can perfrm well was my favrite pastime. But I knew I had t make a change, s I tried t apply fr the cllege myself.
