Scientists have discvered the wrld's largest knwn field f sea grass. They did it using vides sht by sme unusual helpers: tiger sharks. The wrk shuld help prtect the sea grass, and als shws ff a pwerful way t explre the cean.
Sea grasses are flwering plants that nrmally grw in shallw waters near casts. They grw in thick fields, knwn as meadws (草甸). Sea grass meadws nt nly help clean the cean's water and prvide fd and shelter fr many sea creatures but als help fight against the climate crisis.
Sea grass meadws stre huge amunts f carbn-the harmful pllutin that's making glbal warming wrse. Damaging them can release this pllutin again, s it's imprtant t prtect them.
Hwever, scientists dn't knw the exact size and number f the wrld's sea grass meadws. The meadws can be hard t spt, because the. water is either t deep r nt clear enugh. And the cean is s huge that it's simply nt pssible t study it all by diving. S a team f scientists decided t have sharks help with the research. Tiger sharks are fast swimmers that live underwater. Between 2016 and 2020, a team f researchers attached (系上) cameras and ther trackers t the fins (鱼鳍) f seven tiger sharks.
