O.Henry, a famus American writer f shrt stries, was brn in Nrth Carlina in 1862. O. Henry was a pen name. His real name was William Sydney Prter. When he was abut 20 years ld, O. Henry went t Texas. There he tried different jbs. He first wrked n a newspaper, and then had a jb in a bank. But he gt himself int sme truble. Sme mney went missing frm the bank. O. Henry was believed t have stlen it, s he was sent t prisn. During the three years in prisn, he learned t write shrt stries. After he gt ut f prisn, he went t New Yrk and went n writing. He wrte mstly abut New Yrk and the life f the middle and lwer class peple. Peple liked his stries, which are knwn fr full f humur and surprising endings.

After Twenty Years is set in the early 1900s, near the end f America’s Westward Expansin (美国西进运动), which started in the early 1800s. During the expansin, many Americans went t the West (美国西部) t make mney. New Yrk City is lcated in the nrth-east f the US and was already a big city by then.

The shrt stry "After Twenty Years" is set in New Yrk n a cld, dark night. Mst peple have left wrk t g hme, and this part f the city is nw quiet. A pliceman wh is checking the area sees a man utside a shp. He ges up t the man and finds he has a scar n his face. They have a chat and the man starts t tell his stry.
Read alud the intrductin tgether.

Why is the man standing utside the shp?
Because he made an appintment with his best friend, Jimmy, t meet each ther here twenty years later. Nw he is waiting fr his friend Jimmy t fulfill the appintment.
