Stand-up cmedy, cmedy that generally is delivered by a sl perfrmer speaking directly t the audience in sme semblance (有点类似) f a spntaneus manner.
Stand-up is a fairly recent entertainment phenmenn. In the United States, where it develped first and reached its greatest ppularity, it had its rigins in the cmic lecturers, such as Mark Twain, wh tured the cuntry in the 19th century.
What d yu knw abut stand-up cmedy?
It began t emerge as ppulist entertainment in vaudeville (歌舞杂耍表演) in the early decades f the 20th century.
Yet the cmedian wh prbably did the mst t make stand-up cmedy a staple f American ppular entertainment was Bb Hpe, a British-brn frmer vaudeville sng-and-dance man.
But in the 1950s a new wave f stand-up cmics emerged. The grundbreaker was Mrt Sahl, wh appeared nstage sitting n a stl with a rlled-up newspaper in his hand, talking abut the plitical leaders, ppular culture, and respectabilities f American sciety. His plitically dissenting cmedy became a hit and shwed that stand-up culd be smart, persnal, and scially engaged.
