    The piece was made by Mary Jacksn, an African­American artist, in 2007. In 2008 Mrs Jacksn received $500,000 t supprt the creatin f wrk that bth preserved “the centuries­ld craft f sweetgrass basketry” and mved “the traditin in amazing new directins”.
    Brn in 1945,Mrs Jacksn grew up in Munt Pleasant, Suth Carlina. She is Gullah, a member f an ethnic grup wh preserve the African rts f their distinct language and culture. Mrs Jacksn was intrduced t traditinal weaving (编织) techniques by her mther and grandmther at the age f fur.
    In the 1960s, after finishing schl,Mrs Jacksn mved t New Yrk t find wrk. There, she visited the city's museums and discvered Minimalism and Pp Art, which had a deep effect n her. When she returned t Suth Carlina in 1972, she picked up basketmaking again, but with a new feeling.
    Her wrks shw clear shapes and innvative dimensins. Early wrks, such as “Cbra with Handle”, are cmplex, but still usable baskets. Mid­career pieces, including “Tw Lips”, reveal a delicate turn away frm utility twards aestheticism (唯美主义). It is a delicate wrk that is ill­suited t hlding rice r prduce.
    “I wanted t d smething that was very different frm what my ancestrs made,” she says. “Never Again” is perhaps the best representatin f her wrk;Mrs Jacksn says she named the piece t reflect her belief that she wuld nt be able t create anther bject as striking. (It tk her three years t cmplete.) “I dn't think I'll cntinue t make these baskets like hw I used t,” she says. Instead, appraching her 80s, she is “wrking n new things”.

    Fr the past year the grup, knwn as the Parkfield Peckers, have wrked clsely with artists, Glebe Primary Schl and creative ageing charity Equal Arts as they delved (挖掘) int the histry f the area and thse wh've lived at the 19th Century hme.
    Hannah Wd frm charity Equal Arts said: “The__exhibitin__at__Uxbridge__Civic__Centre__was__just__the__icing__n__the__cake! Ging int the prject, there was s much enthusiasm frm the grup t explre the heritage f the hme, s many have their rts in the area and we were keen t capture and share their knwledge in creative ways.”
    There's been a mixture f creativity with illustratin, phtgraphy, prtraiture, music, stry­telling and cllage as the grup tk part in weekly artist­led wrkshps and linked up with schlchildren t share ideas.
    Glendeen Quw, manager f the Canfrd Healthcare­run hme, has n dubt abut the prject's benefit t residents, staff and the hme. She said: “It's been a busy year and we have all lved every minute f it. It's been a privilege t learn abut ur fascinating heritage and a jy t see ur residents grw in cnfidence each week as they were intrduced t the different wrkshps and artists. We have als enjyed strengthening ur relatinships with the lcal cmmunity, especially with the staff and children at Glebe Primary Schl.”
    Clare Sheldn, wh prvides Pastral Supprt at Glebe Primary Schl, said: “The children have been prud t be a part f this prject and cnnect with the Parkfield residents. It's been great fr them t have experience in talking t and sharing with lder peple, it gives them a strnger sense f understanding and cmpassin. This prject has been a great way f explring their wn emtins and identity and we lk frward t cntinuing ur friendship with Parkfield.”
