句中的pencil, pen, eraser, ruler是可数名词。
可数名词是可以计数的单个的物体、人、想法等的名称。可数名词可以和a/an 以及数字连用; 它们有复数形式。

一般情况下，名词后直接加-s
以字母s,x,ch,sh结尾的名词，直接加-es

以字母f/fe结尾的名词，一般将f/fe变成ves

不可数名词是通常不能看成单个个体的材料、液体等的名称。不可数名词通常不与a/an连用,也不和数字连用,大部分是单数,没有复数形式。

基数词指表示数目的词。如：ne, tw, three, fur, five等。

冠词不能单独使用，常用于名词的开头。冠词有两种: 定冠词the和不定冠词a/an。(1) 表示双方都知道所指的内容，名词前用the。

句中的an, a是冠词。
(2) 表示其中一方不知道所指的内容，则单数可数名词前用a/an, 复数名词或不可数名词前用零冠词。
