The study shwed that sixth-graders wh participated in an eight-week mindfulness were less stressed ut than their classmates wh hadn’t.     In a new study published in Science Advances, researchers say they’ve fund the earliest evidence f hrseback riding nt in the bnes f ancient hrses, but in their Yamnaya riders. “Everyne has fcused n hrse remains t get an idea f early hrse riding,” says c-authr and University f Helsinki archaelgist Vlker Heyd. “Our apprach was t lk at humans.”
    The researchers lked at mre than 150 bnes unearthed in Rmania, Hungary, and Bulgaria — the western frntier f Yamnaya expansin. The Yamnaya were well-fed, healthy, and tall; the chemical cmpsitin f their bnes shwed prtein rich diets cnsistent with herding cattle and sheep. But the bnes shwed signs f distinctive wear and tear. They als shwed thick spts n the leg bne cnsistent with lts f time spent n the hrse back. Healed injuries matched the kinds f damage a kicking hrse might cause, r what sprts medicine dctrs tday see in riders thrwn frm their hrses.
    “In terms f trying t identify peple riding hrses, I think they’ve dne the best jb pssible biarchaelgically,” says biarchaelgist Jane Buikstra. “That desn’t mean it’s perfect, r cnvincing, ultimately.”
