My father determined that his grup f teenagers shuld learn t water-ski. He knew little abut it, but he saw thers n the lake with fast crafts (船) and jyful skiers, and decided t jin the fun.
On a ht day, he tied the rpe and laded us int life jackets. One by ne, he pulled the bys t and frm, waving t neighbrs n their dcks. Then it was the girls’ turn. My father dismissed my fears with a wave f his hand. “Keep the tips up, sweetheart.”
It’s time t give up. But here cmes my dad dragging the line, ready fr me t try again. I signal that I am ready t get back in the bat, but he smiles and yells, “This time will be magic!”
Dad guns the engine. The weight f an entire lake is n my chest, pushing me back. Like a light switched n in a dark rm, my father’s wrds shw me the way. “Just stand up, angel. Just d it.” And s I did, even thugh I cried alud.

    C.Her dad’s prfessinal skills.D.Her dad’s encuraging wrds.
27.What might be the best title fr the text?
A.Drive With Father’s DeterminatinB.Explre the Outdrs With Family

    【答案】24.B 25.A 26.D 27.C
根据第一段的“Such is the sund f the twline (拖绳) as it flies frm my grasp and the mtrbat drags it away. It is als the end f my effrt t stand n tw blue bards and sail acrss a lake behind a speedbat. “I’ve had it, Dad. Cme get me!” I knw he can’t hear me as he rckets ff. Besides, I knw what he will say—“It’s easy, sweetheart. Just stand up and let the bat d the rest.” Well, I’ve tried t fllw his advice, but my shaky legs tell me it’s ver. Hw did it cme t this?
根据第二段的“He knew little abut it, but he saw thers n the lake with fast crafts (船) and jyful skiers, and decided t jin the fun. (他对此所知甚少,但他看到湖上其他人驾着快艇和快乐的滑水这,便决定加入其中。)” 可知,作者父亲让孩子们学习滑水,是为了让他们也享受其中的乐趣。故选A。
根据第五段的“Like a light switched n in a dark rm, my father’s wrds shw me the way. (就像黑暗的房间里亮起了一盏灯,父亲的话为我指明了方向。)”可知,作者准备放弃的时候想起了父亲鼓励的话语,从而继续练习滑水,并且取得了成功。故选D。
27.主旨大意题。通读全文,并结合第一段““I’ve had it, Dad. (“我受够了,爸爸。快来救我!”我知道他走的时候听不见我的声音。此外,我知道他会说:“这很容易,亲爱的。站起来,剩下的就让船来做吧。”我试着听从他的建议,但我颤抖的腿告诉我一切都结束了)”,倒数第三段“It’s time t give up. But here cmes my dad dragging the line, ready fr me t try again. I signal that I am ready t get back in the bat, but he smiles and yells, “This time will be magic!”(是时候放弃了。但是我爸爸拖着绳子过来了,准备让我再试一次。我示意我已经准备好回到船上,但他微笑着喊道:“这次将是神奇的!”)”和最后一段“I take a deep breath and straighten my legs. My blue skis begin t skim (滑过) the lake, like a seagull scanning fr snacks!(我深吸一口气,伸直双腿。我的蓝色滑雪板开始掠过湖面,就像一只海鸥在寻找零食!)”可知,文章主要介绍了作者的父亲让孩子们学习滑水,作者尝试了多次后仍然失败,在准备放弃的时候,父亲给予她鼓励,作者因此坚持学习依靠自己最终取得了成功的故事。因此C项“Learn t Water-Ski n My Own Feet(学会用自己的脚滑水)”最适合作为文章标题。故选C。
    C
I always listen t my lcal public radi statin while I’m driving. My fcus ften changes as I stare ut at the rad ahead. But I became fully attentive n a recent mrning nce I realized the entire newscast was dedicated t lcal wildlife.
There was smething abut the pack f sme 30 t 50 javelinas (野猪) that ruined a glf curse near Sedna, Arizna, fllwed by talk f the recent sighting f a jaguar (美洲虎), a species that ranged acrss Arizna and Snra, Mexic, until cnstructin f the brder wall blcked the way. Finally, there was an update n Mexican wlf reintrductin effrts in New Mexic and Arizna. The results were mixed: Nine f the wlves had died r been killed recently.
As I sat in my car, listening t the news, I felt helpless, even murnful. What wuld it take fr mst f us t understand that the javelinas’ behavir n that heavily irrigated glf curse in the desert was a sign that maybe the curse shuldn’t be in the desert t begin with? The way I saw it, the javelinas weren’t invading (入侵) the site; they were reclaiming it. After all, the javelinas’ needs—fr fd and space—are mre basic than a few privileged humans’ desire t play glf.
As fr the Arizna Mexican wlf pup reintrductin effrt that I heard abut in the news, fr the past 25 years, scientists have been wrking hard t restre the native wlf ppulatin, and yet are unable t remve its greatest threat. Tday, almst 250 Mexican wlves are believed t be in the wild, and every year, humans illegally kill ne ut f ten. The wlf recvery effrt is necessary, but it’s extremely difficult because we humans keep getting in the way.
I need t tackle my helplessness, because helplessness leads t n lnger wanting t take care f what matters mst. Therefre, I think that it must be a gd sign that my lcal news nw regularly cvers the challenges f cexistence and pssible slutins t ur prblems. That’s prgress and fuels my hpe.
28.What is the mrning news abut?
    A.Dangers f lcal wildlife.
    B.Effrts t reintrduce wildlife.
    C.Issues f human-wildlife cexistence.
D.Distributin f wildlife arund the wrld.
29.Why did the javelinas destry the glf curse accrding t the authr?
    A.T meet basic needs.
    B.T prtect the desert.
    C.T ppse glf playing.
    D.T attack human beings.
30.What d we knw abut the Mexican wlves?
    A.They are bund t g extinct.
    B.Humans threaten their survival.
    C.Their number has greatly increased.
D.10% f them have been reintrduced.
31.What is the authr’s attitude t the challenges mentined in the last paragraph?
    A.Unclear.B.Negative.
    C.Optimistic.D.Indifferent.

One day in 1995,a large, heavy middle-aged man rbbed tw Pittsburgh banks in brad daylight. He didn't wear a mask and he smiled at surveillance cameras befre walking ut f each bank. Later that night, plice arrested a surprised McArthur Wheeler. When they shwed him the surveillance tapes, Wheeler stared in disbelief. "But I wre the juice," he mumbled. Apparently, Wheeler thught that rubbing lemn juice n his skin wuld make him invisible t videtape cameras. After all, lemn juice is used as invisible ink, s, as lng as he didn't cme near a heat surce, he shuld have been cmpletely invisible.
The case caught the eye f the psychlgist David Dunning at Crnell University, wh enlisted his graduate student, Justin Kruger, t see what was ging n. They reasned that, while almst everyne hlds favurable views f their abilities in varius scial and intellectual fields, sme peple mistakenly assess their abilities as being much higher than they actually are. This "illusin f cnfidence" is nw called" the Dunning-Kruger Effect", and describes the cgnitive bias t inflate self-assessment.
T investigate this phenmenn in the lab, Dunning and Kruger designed sme clever experiments. In ne study, they asked undergraduate students a series f questins abut grammar, lgic and jkes, and then asked each student t estimate his r her scre verall, as well as their relative rankings cmpared t the ther students. Interestingly, students wh scred the lwest in these cgnitive tasks always verestimated hw well they did—by a lt. Students wh scred in the bttm estimated that they had perfrmed better than tw-thirds f the ther students!
Sure, it's typical fr peple t verestimate their abilities. The prblem is that when peple are incmpetent, nt nly d they reach wrng cnclusins and make unfrtunate chices, but als they are rbbed f the ability t realize their mistakes. In a semester-lng study f cllege students, gd students culd better predict their perfrmance n future exams given feedback abut their scres and rankings. Hwever, the prest perfrmers shwed n recgnitin, despite clear and repeated feedback that they were ding badly. Instead f being cnfused r thughtful abut their incrrect ways, incmpetent peple insist that their ways are crrect. As Charles Darwin wrte in The Descent f Man(1871): "Ignrance mre frequently begets cnfidence than des knwledge. "
Interestingly, really smart peple als fail t accurately self-assess their abilities. As much as D-and F-grade students verestimate their abilities, A-grade students underestimate theirs. The difference is that cmpetent peple can adjust their self-assessment if given apprpriate feedback, while incmpetent individuals cannt.
32.Which f the fllwing statements abut the Dunning-Kruger Effect is true?
A.The effect is true fr everyne in daily life.
B.It suggests that mst peple lack cgnitive abilities.

D.The cnclusin is drawn based n a series f bank rbberies.
33.What des the cllege students' behaviur mentined in the experiments prve?

B.Incmpetent peple have a rigid attitude twards their chice.
C.Gd students can predict their future perfrmance accurately.
D.Peple can't rely n their previus behaviur t make adjustments.
34.The underlined wrd "begets" can be replaced by “________”.
    A.gives rise tB.takes advantage fC.makes up frD.breaks away frm
35.What can we infer frm the passage?

B.It is difficult fr peple t evaluate their real cmpetence.
C.Illusin f cnfidence is the majr surce f peple's failure.
D.Thse with great abilities ften have a lw pinin f themselves.
    【答案】32.C 33.B 34.A 35.A

根据倒数第二段的“Instead f being cnfused r thughtful abut their incrrect ways, incmpetent peple insist that their ways are crrect.(不称职的人坚持他们的方式是正确的,而不是困惑或思考他们不正确的方式。)” 故选A。
通读全文,尤其是倒数第二段的“Sure, it's typical fr peple t verestimate their abilities. The prblem is that when peple are incmpetent, nt nly d they reach wrng cnclusins and make unfrtunate chices, but als they are rbbed f the ability t realize their mistakes.(当然,人们高估自己的能力是很典型的。问题是,当人们无能时,他们不仅会得出错误的结论,做出不幸的选择,而且还会被剥夺意识到自己错误的能力。)”可知,本文主要阐述了“邓宁-克鲁格效应”。研究表明有能力的人会根据各方面的反馈来调整自我评估,而无知的人往往看不到自己的不足,盲目自信,固执己见。因此,我们可以推断出,真正的知识是知道自己无知的程度。故选A。
