    This past summer I went n a jurney t Canada's Arctic with Students n Ice. When I left Calgary I wndered what I wuld find, what I wuld learn and wh I wuld meet. On the trip t Ottawa I was wrapped in a blanket f uncertainty and excitement. But when I first met the grup, I knew I didn't have anything t wrry abut. I was sn part f a big family setting ut n an amazing adventure—an adventure f a lifetime!
    When we reached the Arctic I saw a vast land that appeared untuched and riginal. I was surprised by its great size and beauty. I std n the Kapitan Khlebnikv and saw twelve plar bears. They walked in search f seal hles, and patiently waited fr a meal. I learned that plar bears are successful nly ne ut f every twenty hunting attempts.
    Hwever, I learned that the Arctic and its peple are being threatened by pllutin and glbal warming. I learned that pllutants are carried by the cean and air and have a bad effect n all Arctic peple. I learned that glbal warming has put plar bears at risk because a warmer climate means that they have a shrter time t hunt seals n the ice.
    The trip was a feast(盛宴) fr the senses. I have learned mre abut ur envirnment, and particularly hw alive and interesting the Arctic is and why it is s imprtant t take care f it. I learned pllutin, ignrance f individuals and glbal prblems need t be slved. The Arctic deserves t be preserved. When the rest f yu g t bed, the first watcher takes his r her place by the fire. The duty f the watcher is t keep the fire ging. After thirty minutes, he r she wakes up the next persn.     Alan ndded but felt a little nervus. Sleeping in a tent with ther campers sunded OK, and the idea f being alne in the dark made him afraid.
    The fficer shwed the rder f the watch.
    At ten past tw in the evening, Alan fund himself sitting by the fire, in a great wrld f darkness. He had never been s afraid. Alan had t turn ff his flashlight because he had used it t ften. He lked at the stars and the rising mn. It wasn't as dark as he'd thught it wuld be. He tk cmfrt in that and tried t relax a little.
    Lking arund, Alan thught he saw a large bird flying dwn thrugh the air and wndered if it was an wl(猫头鹰). He had seen small paw prints in the sand by the river.
