On a Friday mrning in April, Dan Stein, the funder f Giving Green, a climate charity rganizatin, fund sme big news in a surprising email. An annymus (匿名) dnr had given his fund $10 millin.

Researchers in Japan say they will begin selling new devices that will help peple cut dwn n the amunt f salt they use t imprve the taste f their fd. The’ develpers are frm Japan’s Meiji University and drink cmpany Kirin based in Tky.
One new device is an electric spn, which sends a weak electric current t the tngue. The current is t weak t be felt. Hwever, it makes salt taste ne and a half times strnger. This means we can eat fd with less salt, but still sense a salty taste.
The Electric Salt Spn will sell in Japan fr arund $120 beginning in June. Meiji University prfessr Hmei Miyashita develped the spn and a similar device electric chpsticks. The chpsticks will likely g n sale next year.
The recent annuncement marks the first time the technlgy has been used in a prduct fr sale t the public. Last year, the effrt gained a different srt f attentin. It wn the 2023 Ig Nbel Prize in nutritin. Organizers describe the prize as recgnizing research that makes “peple LAUGH, then THINK. ”

The team als tested the plant species in the reserve, which they suspected were being cnsumed by the chimpanzees t self-medicate, fr anti-inflammatry (抗炎) and antibacterial (抗菌) characteristics. The species included plants nt part f the chimpanzees’ nrmal diet, but being cnsumed fr their healing characteristics. The authrs fund 88% f the plant species had antibacterial characteristics, arresting the grwth f bacteria, while 33% f them had anti-inflammatry characteristics.
