Last mnth, a study was published that examined climate change’s direct effects n the Earth’s seasns. Scientists fund a cnnectin between climate change and the temperature and duratin f the summer seasn. Summers in the Nrthern hemisphere(北半球) culd last nearly six mnths by the year 2100 if glbal warming cntinues, accrding t the study. With the seasns ff-balance, there will be harmful effects n human health and agriculture.
Yuping Guan, a physical ceangrapher at the State Key Labratry f Trpical Oceangraphy at the Chinese Academy f Sciences, and his clleagues cmbined daily climate data frm 1952 t 2011 t get a sense f the start and end f each seasn in the Nrthern hemisphere. Over the nearly 60-year perid, they discvered that, n average, summers grew frm 78 t 95 days, while winters shrtened frm 76 t 73 days. The spring and autumn seasns als shrtened. Guan and his team used the findings frm the data t create a mdel t hypthesize (假设) abut hw the seasns wuld pssibly change in the future. They fund that if left untuched, summers in the Nrthern hemisphere culd last nearly six mnths, while winters culd cntract t less than tw mnths.
If the Earth’s seasns cntinue t shift, it will bring negative effects t human health and agriculture. Lnger and htter summers, fr example, can cause msquites and ther disease-carrying insects t ptentially expand their scpe and land in places where they’re usually nt fund. “Because seasns influence the life cycles f plants and animals, climate change culd disturb species’ ability t adapt,” said Sctt Sheridan, a climate scientist. “If seasns cntinue t change, everything isn’t ging t change perfectly as they shuld. If we take the example f flwers cming ut f the grund, thse flwers culd cme ut, but bees aren’t there t pllinate them yet r they’re already past their peak.” With negative effects like these, human health and agriculture will face hardship while mving frward.
This study further demnstrates hw cruel climate change is t humans, plants and animals, reminding us hw much we are all cnnected with the envirnment we share.

31.Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?

In 2021, scientists studying animal cmmunicatin discvered that sme dgs assciate bjects with wrds at a similar level t babies. Then what abut cats, which are cmmnly believed t be indifferent t human affairs?
Sah Takagi, a researcher at Azabu University, dubted cats’ seeming indifference. “Cats dn’t appear t listen t peple’s cnversatins, but in fact, they d.” Accrding t previus research, cats understand human cmmunicatin better than expected. Like dgs, they can use human pinting and stares t find fd. They even can tell the difference between human facial expressins and attentinal states, accrding t a 2016 study. Hwever, cats can d mre than that.
Anther study shwed that cats can discriminate their human-given name frm the names f their cat friends (thse that live in the same husehld). The researchers believed that cats learned t assciate names with ther cats by bserving interactins between their wners and their cat friends.
In a recently published study, Takagi and her clleagues cmpared tw grups f cats: ne grup cnsisted f husehld cats that lived with at least tw ther cats; the ther cnsisted f cats that lived in “cat cafés”, which had up t 30 cats. They used a simple, tw-phase(阶段)test. During the name phase, the study participant was sftly placed in frnt f a laptp cmputer. Then the researcher played a recrding f its wner saying the name f ne f its kitty cmpanins(同伴).
Immediately after the name phase came the face phase. A cat’s face appeared n the mnitr. Smetimes, the cat that appeared n the screen matched the name spken; ther times the name and the image did nt match. If cats knew the names f their cat friends, they wuld investigate by staring dubtfully at the mnitr when the name and image did nt match. Huse cats had a significantly lnger stare than café cats, indicating that husehld cats generally expected a specific cat’s face upn hearing the cat’s name.
“This is the first evidence that husehld cats link human wrds and their scial cmpanins thrugh daily experiences,” the researchers wrte. “Hwever, we culd nt recgnize the mechanism(机制)fr learning. But with mre and mre scientists becming interested in cats wh are much smarter than we give them credit fr, this questin is sure t be reslved.”
32.What des the authr want t stress by cmparing cats and dgs in Paragraph 2?
A.Cats and dgs are all clever animals.
B.Cats and dgs get alng well with humans.
C.Cats’ ability t learn is strnger than dgs’.
D.Cats’ ability ges beynd bdy language recgnitin.
33.Which f the fllwing can replace the underlined wrd “discriminate” in Paragraph 3?
A.Prtect.B.Tell.C.Excuse.D.Learn.
34.What did the researchers cnclude abut husehld cats frm the study?
A.They are curius abut cat names. B.They are dependent n their wners.
C.They knw the names f their cat friends. D.They like cmmunicating with each ther.
35.What is the unsettled questin f the study?
A.Hw cats can recgnize ther cats’ faces.
B.Whether cats are much smarter than expected.
C.Whether cats can understand human interactins.
D.Hw cats link human wrds and their scial cmpanins.

根据第一段中的“Scientists fund a cnnectin between climate change and the temperature and duratin f the summer seasn.(科学家们发现了气候变化与夏季温度和持续时间之间的联系。)”
根据画线词所在句“They fund that if left untuched, summers in the Nrthern hemisphere culd last nearly six mnths, while winters culd cntract t less than tw mnths”可知,while表示前后两者的对比,再结合画线词前的“nearly six mnths”和画线词后的“less than tw mnths”可知,此处是指冬季缩短,故划线词与C选项“shrten(缩短)”为同义词。故选C。
根据第三段中的“ Lnger and htter summers, fr example, can cause msquites and ther disease-carrying insects t ptentially expand their scpe and land in places where they’re usually nt fund.(例如,更长更热的夏季会导致蚊子和其他携带疾病的昆虫潜在地扩大活动范围,并降落在通常找不到它们的地方。)” 故选A。
D选项“Is summer taking ver frm all ther seasns?(夏天正在取代其他季节吗?)”

Hwever, cats can d mre than that.(像狗一样,它们可以使用人类的指点和凝视来寻找食物。
“Anther study shwed that cats can discriminate their human-given name frm the names f their cat friends (thse that live in the same husehld).(另一项研究表明,猫可以区分他们的人类名字和他们的猫朋友(住在同一家庭的人)的名字。)”讲述的是猫可知把人的名字与他的猫朋友的名字如何,根据划线单词所在的句子根据第三段中的“The researchers believed that cats learned t assciate names with ther cats by bserving interactins between their wners and their cat friends.(研究人员认为,猫通过观察主人和猫朋友之间的互动,学会了将名字与其他猫联系起来。)”
根据倒数第二段中的“Huse cats had a significantly lnger stare than café cats, indicating that husehld cats generally expected a specific cat’s face upn hearing the cat’s name.(家猫的凝视时间明显长于咖啡馆的猫,这表明家猫在听到猫的名字时通常会期待特定的猫的脸。)”
根据最后一段中的““This is the first evidence that husehld cats link human wrds and their scial cmpanins thrugh daily experiences,” the researchers wrte. “Hwever, we culd nt recgnize the mechanism(机制)fr learning….(“这是家猫通过日常经历将人类语言与其社交伴侣联系起来的第一个证据,”研究人员写道。“但是,我们无法识别猫学习的机制……”。)”可知,研究已经证实家猫能够通过日常经历将人类语言和他们的社交伙伴联系起来,但是却不知道他们学习的机制是什么,也就是不知道猫是如何把人类语言和其社交伙伴联系起来的。故选D项。
