I have a strng faith that the pain is almst gne but the feeling f success will stay frever. I was amng the 38,000 runners wh participated in the marathn (马拉松赛跑), the largest event f its kind in Asia.
My decisin t participate in the marathn was because f the insistence f my wife, wh had run the half-marathn previusly. This year, she wanted me t participate alng with her. Unexpectedly, her applicatin gt rejected while mine gt accepted.
Thugh I had been int fitness training befre, it seemed t be a daunting task t run 21 km. I started training abut 10 weeks befre the day. I had made up my mind t finish the run. S I tried my best t accmmdate training int my busy schedule whenever I culd.
What’s mre, I remembered that fur weeks int my training, my shes were wrn. I searched and hunted and literally spent a frtune n a new pair f shes. Hwever, right n the first day f running with them, I felt that they were nt fr me. I preserved, thinking that my discmfrt was because the shes were new. Eventually, I gave up n them. I even tried lking fr anther new pair f shes, but culdn’t find that were as cmfrtable as my ld nes.
Finally, n 16th January 2011, I ran and cmpleted the half-marathn. And I did it in my ld shes.
Nw, when I think abut it, it all seems s easy. All I had t d was t picture cmpleting the run in gd time in my mind.
What I have learned frm the experience is that cmpleting a marathn is like any ther gal in life — largely a mind-ver-matter phenmenn. In ther wrds, unless yu believe yu can reach yur gal, yu’ve lst even befre yu begin. N dubt, factrs such as hard wrk, experience and talent help t a greater r lesser degree. But withut yur belief that yu will get there, every gal remains difficult t achieve.

In recent studies we have been investigating mirrr writing by typical 4- t 6-year-ld children. The term is used because the characters — numbers and capital letters — are reversed (反向), yet are crrect when lked at in a mirrr.
Mirrr writing entered the scientific literature in 1878. The explanatins fr the phenmenn were nt nly insufficient but als ften wrng. One f them is — writing with the left hand. Thrughut the 20th century, scientific jurnals have published mirrr writing mstly prduced by left-handed children. Even tday, left-handedness is ften the favrite explanatin f teachers when children prduce mirrr writing.
The explanatin we find fr the phenmenn f mirrr writing f characters wrks n tw successive levels, the first cerebral and the secnd behaviral. The cerebral level shws that the brain remves rientatin (left r right) when string images, a prcess called symmetrisatin r mirrr generalizatin. This mirrr-generalizatin prcess leads children aged 5 t knw, frm memry, the shape f the characters, but nt their left/right rientatin. Given the features f the prcess — hrizntal mirrr in the visual mdality (视觉模式) — it is imprtant t nte that the initial learning f the frm f the characters by the children is mainly visual, and that the children nly prduce hrizntal mirrr writing.
At the behaviral level, when children write the characters frm memry, they must give them an rientatin. In cuntries whse primary languages are written in Latin characters — written frm left t right — children mst ften pint them tward the right. This leads them t reverse mainly the left-riented characters: J, Z, 1, 2, 3, 7, and 9. Hwever, when spatial cnstraints cause them t write frm right t left, the children instead reverse the right-riented letters.
Since this explanatin has nthing t d with the handedness f the children, it can be predicted that right-handed children will reverse characters almst ften as left-handed children, and that – left-handed r right-handed – children will primarily reverse left-riented characters in Western culture. This is because they strictly rient the characters in the directin f writing.
28.What aspect f a character des mirrr generalizatin help children t knw?
A.Its frm.B.Its prnunciatin.
C.Its meaning.D.Its rientatin.
29.Which paragraph shws why mirrr writing is reversed hrizntally rather than vertically (垂直)?
A.Paragraph 2.B.Paragraph 3.
C.Paragraph 4.D.Paragraph 5.
30.Which f the fllwing is likely t be reversed by a child writing frm right t left?
A.M.B.C. C.8.D.9.
31.What can we learn frm the study?
A.Handedness is the main reasn fr mirrr writing.
B.Right-handed children wn’t write reversed characters.
C.Left-handed children reverse right-riented characters mre ften.
D.Children in the US tend t primarily reverse left-riented characters.

Children wh spent mre than tw hurs per day in frnt f a televisin r cmputer screen were mre likely t reprt behaviral and scial prblems than kids wh watched less, accrding t a University f Bristl study that will be published in Pediatrics.
Researchers recrded the playing, screen viewing and activity habits f 1,000 children aged 10 t 11. They als had the kids fill ut questinnaires designed t estimate the kids’ emtinal well-being and behavir.

The study fund that thse children wh spent mre than tw hurs per day watching TV r using a cmputer were at an increased risk f psychlgical difficulties. This risk increased if they als failed t meet the guidelines n physical activity.
While the risks fr kids wh spent a lt f time in frnt f a screen appeared t be increased by lack f physical activity, the ppsite was nt true: Increase in physical activity did nt seem t decrease kids’ high scres in psychlgical difficulties if they spent a lt f time sedentary (久坐 的) in frnt f a screen. By cntrast, sedentary time spent reading a bk r wrking n a prject crrespnded t the highest scres f psychlgical well-being.
“While lw levels f screen viewing may nt be prblematic, we cannt rely n physical activity t cmpensate fr lng hurs f screen viewing,” lead authr Dr. Angie Page said in a statement. “Watching TV r playing cmputer games fr mre than tw hurs a day is related t greater psychlgical difficulties regardless f hw active children are.”
Althugh Page’s study desn’t clarify the links between inactivity, screen time and psychlgical well-being, it’s true that kids in the United States are getting less exercise and mre screen time than they shuld. In 2009, Page’s team fund a cnnectin between a child’s physical activity and independent mbility, the amunt f space in which a child can play withut the supervisin f an adult. They cncluded that, as play spaces have decreased in recent decades, childhd inactivity-and perhaps screen time—has increased.
32.What infrmatin can we get abut the University f Bristl study?
A.It was dne by an elementary schl.
B.The results f it have been published.
C.All the kids studied had t fill ut questinnaires.
D.The questinnaires f it cntained five questins.
33.The researchers’ purpse f letting the kids fill ut questinnaires was t________.

B.estimate the average time kids spent in frnt f a screen
C.infer whether the kids have psychlgical prblems r nt
D.get infrmatin abut the psychlgical activity kids like
34.Why d mre kids lack physical activities in recent years accrding t Page’s team?
A.Mre electrnic prducts have pured int their wrld.
B.They have t much hmewrk t d.
C.They have fewer spaces t play in.
D.They lack the supervisin f their parents.
35.What des the passage mainly discuss?
A.A study shws mre screen time and inactivity increase kids’ risks f psychlgical difficulties.
B.A study clarifies the links between inactivity, screen time and psychlgical well-being.
C.A study illustrates why childhd inactivity and screen time have increased.
