New glve can translate sign language instantly thrugh an app, researchers say
Califrnia researchers develped a glve embedded with electrnic sensrs that can translate American Sign Language (ASL) int English in real time thrugh an app n yur smartphne.
Unlike its past cunterparts, the new glve is lightweight, inexpensive and lng-lasting. The device culd help remve cmmunicatin barriers between signers and nn-signers. Hpefully, this may pen up an easy way fr peple wh use sign language t cmmunicate directly with nn-signers withut needing smene else t translate fr them.
The team wrked with fur peple wh are deaf and use ASL and had them repeat gestures up t 15 times while wearing the glve-like device, simultaneusly teaching a machine hw t recgnize them.
The glve has thin, stretchable sensrs made frm “electrically cnducting yarns” that run up each finger and cnvert the mvements int signals. These signals are sent t a “dllar-cin-sized” circuit bard placed n the persn’s wrist, which then wirelessly transfers them ver t a smartphne.
The system was able t recgnize 660 hand mtins and finger placements that stand fr each letter in the English alphabet, different phrases and each number. The algrithm (计算程序) recgnized the crrect signs abut 99% f the time, and in less than ne secnd — r abut a tne wrd per secnd.
The researchers als placed sensrs in between the participants eyebrws and n the sides f their muths t “capture facial expressins that are a part f ASL”. The same exact hand-shape and mvement can ttally change meaning because f the facial expressin that is used t accmpany it. Take the wrd MUCH. The degree f hw much can ttally be determined by the facial expressin alne while the sign stays the same.
Researchers said the glve wuld need t learn mre vcabulary and be able t translate signs faster in rder t get a cmmercial versin f it in stres.

C.By lengthening the time f catching gestures. D.By inputting mre letters and wrds in English.
31.What will researchers d with the glve in the future?

34.Which f the fllwing best explains “catering” underlined in Paragraph 3?
    A.Medicine.B.Restaurant.
    C.Manufacture.D.Agriculture.
35.What can be a suitable title fr the text?
A.The Charm f Chinese Cuisine B.The Ppularity f Tnic Fd

If yu yawn in a staff meeting because yu were up early fr an internatinal business call —let peple knw why yu’re tired.
Find meaning in a single gesture
Peple ften try t evaluate yur state f mind by mnitring yur bdy language. But they take mre ntice f any single sign that indicates yu’re in a bad md and nt t be apprached. 38 S when yu are standing with yur arms flded fr yur cmfrt, thers may judge yur bdy language as resistant and unapprachable.
Evaluate yu thrugh the biases (偏见)
A neighbur likes me frm the mment we met. Befre lng. I knw it’s because I resemble her favrite aunt. That’s hw biases can wrk —the s-called “hal effect.” But biases can als wrk against yu. What if yu remind peple f smene they dislike? In that case, their riginal respnse t yu wuldn’t be a gd ne. 39
Cmpare yur behavir with their culture
Mst f culture’s values are absrbed uncnsciusly at an early age. Such values affect hw peple think and act, and mre imprtantly, the kind f criteria by which peple judge thers. 40 Fr instance, peple’s greetings, hand gestures etc. vary with cultures.
Therefre, there are many mistakes peple make when reading yur bdy language. Under-standing them, and trying nt t make the same mistakes, will help yu display nnverbal ability.
A.Nnverbal signals are very cmmn in ur daily life.
B.They wuld even lk fr yur behavir that cnfirmed this bias.
C.What they didn’t realize was that, fr this individual, it was a nrmal behavir.
D.In fact, peple easily make mistakes reading and reacting t thers’ bdy language.
E.What’s prper and crrect in ne culture may be ineffective r even rude in anther.
F.Besides, they ften assign meaning t negative messages than it des t psitive nes.
G.Cntext includes lcatins, relatinships, time, experience, and even rm temperature.
