Having anywhere frm ne t fur hurs f screen time per day at age l is linked with higher risks f develpmental delays in cmmunicatin skills, fine mtr skills, persnal and scial skills, and prblem-slving skills by age 2, accrding t a study f 7,097 children published in the jurnal JAMA Pediatrics. The study measured hw many hurs children used screens per day at age 1 and hw they perfrmed in these develpmental dmains (领域) at ages 2 and 4. Bth measures were accrding t the mthers’ self-reprts.
By age 2, thse wh had had up t fur hurs f screen time per day were up t 3 times mre likely t experience develpmental delays in cmmunicatin and prblem-slving skills. Thse wh had spent fur r mre hurs with screens were 4.78 times mre likely t have underdevelped cmmunicatin skills, 1.74 times mre likely t have pr perfrmances in fine mtr skills and tw times mre likely t have underdevelped persnal and scial skills by age2. By age 4, risk remained nly in the cmmunicatin and prblem-slving categries.
“One f the areas that is relatively understudied in the whle screen time literature is lking at the impacts f screen expsure n very yung kids, especially when screens are intrduced t babies,” said Dr. Jhn Huttn, an assciate prfessr f general and cmmunity pediatrics (儿科) at Cincinnati Children’s Hspital Medical Center. “It’s definitely a glbal cncern, and I think the findings shuld really be applied t ther cuntries as well.”
“Technlgy use can take time away frm interpersnal relatinships that develp scial skills since real peple are mre multidimensinal than characters n a screen.” Huttn added. Lking at peple’s faces is when ur brains turn n t figure ut hw t interact with them.

Stressed at wrk and feeling yur bld pressure rise? Peple all ver the wrld are tld by their dctrs t try fr a lw-sdium (钠) diet t treat high bld pressure r ther diseases, but there’s n denying that salt makes fd taste gd. Frtunately, Japanese researchers at Tky’s Meiji University and the manufacturer Kirin have develped high-tech chpsticks that enhance salty tastes, ptentially helping thse wh need t reduce sdium in their diets.
These wired-up chpsticks are actually part f a device that the researchers say can enhance the salty flavr f lw-sdium fds. And when they were tested n participants fr the first time, results shwed that the high-tech chpsticks increase perceived (察觉到) saltiness in fds by abut 1.5 times.
Accrding t the research team, the basic principle is that the extra salty flavr is perceived due t extremely weak electric currents cnveyed directly int the muth thrugh the tip f ne f the chpsticks. Scientists have apparently been using this kind f weak electricity t play with flavrs in the lab fr years, but these chpsticks in particular are set t adjust the activity f ins (离子) in sdium chlride (table salt), which enhances salty flavr.
And d these chpsticks wrk as expected? T verify the effect f the new chpsticks, the researchers cnducted an experiment n a ttal f 36 participants aged 40 t 65, all f whm were eating a lw-sdium diet. If nthing else, ne thing was clear: participants using the chpsticks tasted mre salt than they did withut. Results shw that they even thught that lw-sdium fd eaten with the high-tech chpsticks tasted saltier than regular fd made with an average amunt f sdium, and eaten with nrmal chpsticks.
The chpsticks aren’t n stre shelves quite yet, but with prmising results, peple arund the wrld wh are unhappily devted t a lw-sdium diet might just be excited fr any updates t cme!
32.What is the main functin f the future high-tech chpsticks?
A.T treat bld pressure.B.T test hw salty a dish is.
C.T increase the saltiness f fd.D.T help reduce salt intake.
    33.Hw d the high-tech chpsticks wrk?
A.By sending warning infrmatin t the brain.
B.By changing the saltiness f fd with electric shcks.
C.By using electricity t transprt ins between chpsticks.
D.By tricking ur brains int tasting extra salt.
34.What des the underlined wrd “verify” in paragraph 4 mean?
    A.Cnfirm.B.Imprve.
    C.Change.D.Strengthen.
35.What is the writer’s attitude tward the future f the chpsticks?
    A.Dubtful.B.Optimistic.C.Uncertain.D.Pessimistic.
