The new technlgy can create a prsthetic eye in just 90 minutes, cmpared with the eight hurs it wuld nrmally take a skilled technician, r cularist (假眼制造工), t prduce ne by hand. The 3D-printed eyes require five times less wrk t make than traditinal methds, the scientists behind the technlgy wrte in a new paper published in the jurnal Nature Cmmunicatins.
The 3D-printed eyes als lk mre natural than traditinal prstheses; this culd help imprve a patient’s self-cnfidence in using the devices. “Patients are very cnscius abut wearing a prsthesis, and they dn’t want thers t ntice,” Jhann Reinhard, lead study authr and a researcher at the Fraunhfer Institute fr Cmputer Graphics Research in Germany, tld us. “With these mre realistic eyes, it might help them t participate mre in sciety,” he said.
The new printing apprach invlves taking a specialized image f a patient’s empty eye scket(窝) and f their healthy eye. These images are then prcessed and used t draft blueprints that can be sent t be 3D-printed in the lab. These 3D-printed eyes clsely cpy the clr, size and structure f the patient’s health y eye and are particularly gd at capturing the clred part f the eye, knwn as the iris, and the white part f the eye, called the sclera. Once finished, the eyes take15 t 30 minutes t be installed(安装) by an cularist, Reinhard said.
“Abut 80% f adults in need f prsthetic eyes culd theretically(理论上) have ne made this way, either due t a birth defect that causes an eye t be small r missing r because they’ve lst an eye,” the team said. “Hwever, this wuldn’t be pssible fr all patients, such as thse wh have a very cmplex eye scket, as the sftware wuldn’t be able t find a matching shape fr the prsthetic eye,” Reinhard said.
“Mre data are needed t see if this technique culd als be used t make prsthetic eyes fr children, which wuld require mre regulatin,” Reinhard said.
    28. Which f the fllwing wrds can be best used t describe the 3D-printed eyes?

    A. By raising questins.B. By giving examples.
    C. By listing causes.D. By making a cmparisn.
    30. Which statement is true abut a 3D-printed eye?
    A. The patients are mre likely t shw ff their prsthetic eyes.
    B. Nt every adult in need f a prsthetic eye can pssibly have ne.
    C. It nrmally takes a skilled technician, r cularist, t prduce ne.
    D. The installment f ne is 5 times faster than a traditinal prsthetic eye.
    31. Which f the fllwing wuld be the best title fr the text?

Tiny, black-capped chickadees(北美山雀) have big memries. They stre fd in hundreds t thusands f different lcatins in the wild—and then cme back t these places when ther fd surces are lw.
Scientists have knwn that chickadees have unbelievable memry skills. That memry can be a matter f life r death fr these birds when there are n enugh fd resurces in clder mnths.
Sme researchers thught that neurns called place cells (细胞) wuld explain these birds’ ability t remember where their fd is stred. These cells are knwn t include infrmatin abut where things are in space. But recently, Selmaan Chettih and his team fund that each time a chickadee hides a seed (种子) in a specific lcatin, a unique brain pattern appears—separate frm place cells.
T bserve this, Chettih and his team created special areas with lts f feeders filled with sunflwer seeds. They put small flaps(片状下垂物) where birds culd hide seeds.
The scientists tracked the activity in their brains. Each time a bird hid a seed under a flap, researchers saw a brief unique brain pattern appear—what they called the bar cde. Different patterns appeared even if the birds hid many seeds in the same lcatin. When the birds revisited these sites and retrieved the hidden seeds, the same bar cde-like pattern appeared again, as thugh all the infrmatin abut each lcatin and seed were related t a unique brain pattern.
The researchers cmpared these memries t episdic memries in humans, which are memries f specific events r persnal experiences. They’re imprtant t hw humans cnnect time, peple, places and sensry infrmatin tgether.
Chettih says that this seed-hiding behavir has a clear pattern f activity, which may help researchers build a structure fr hw the brain creates and stres memries.
    32. Why are memry skills necessary fr chickadees?
    A. Memry skills shw their intelligence and learning abilities.
    B. Memry skills can help them survive in clder mnths.
    C. They need memry skills t identify different types f fd.
    D. They use memry skills t avid being attacked by ther animals.

    A. Unique brain patterns appeared when chickadees hid seeds.
    B. Chickadees’ memries were cntrlled by place cells.
    C. Chickadees preferred hiding sunflwer seeds.
    D. Chickadees ften hid many seeds in the same lcatin.
    34. What des the underlined wrd “retrieved” mean in paragraph 5?
    A. gt back. B. gave up. C. repaired. D. designed
