Weeks befre the first annual Healing Hands fr Water Walk Fundraiser event in 2012, students walked in the beach twn and asked fr dnatins frm businesses. They cvered a lt mre distance than the 2 miles they wuld cver during the event as student rganizers Branner Grimsley, Klara Gundelach and Slveig Erngren punded n the bardwalk. “But it was wrth it t make a difference by helping these peple in Africa,” Grimsley said.
Standing n the bardwalk and lking ut ver the sand t the hrizn and beynd, yu can see a lifeline reaching frm a few dedicated kids t a similar grup f kids in an African village. The nrthward rain shift is caused by cmplex atmspheric changes. These changes are driven by carbn emissins, which in turn influence the frmatin f trpical cnvergence（汇集） znes. Thse znes are essentially atmspheric engines that drive abut a third f the wrld’s rainfall, which Antny P. Thmas, a prfessr f climate change and sustainability at UCR reprted in a paper published in the jurnal Nature Climate Change.
Trpical regins n either side the equatr, such as central African natins, nrthern Suth America, and Pacific island states wuld be the mst affected. Majr crps in these regins include cffee, cca, palm il, bananas, sugarcane, tea, manges, and pineapples.
Trpical rainfrests can have as much as 14 feet f rain a year. “The rainfall change is enrmus,” Antny said. “It’s a very heavy rainfall regin. S, a small shift will cause big changes in the ecnmy f the scieties. It will affect many regins.”
Antny and his clleagues used advanced cmputer mdels t predict the atmspheric influence f carbn dixide emissins frm cntinued burning f fssil fuels and ther surces. “This climate mdel included many cmpnents f the atmsphere, cean, sea ice, and land. All these cmpnents are interacting with each ther,” he said. “Basically, we try t simulate the real wrld. In the mdel, we can increase ur carbn dixide emissins frm pre- industrial levels t much higher levels.”

Bilgists like Rawsn and Göpfrich fund a wrkarund. They’re creating nanmachines that d the same jbs as prteins. With the right design, these nanmachines can d s easier at less cst. They als can be mre stable using fewer ingredients.
T build them, researchers wrk with many types f materials. Rawsn uses carbn nantubes. Göpfrich even uses bilgical mlecules, such as DNA．Rather than heal ld r damaged bdy parts, she’d replace them with new nes.
