Indian scientists have designed a new device(设备)that they hpe will slve ne f the biggest prblems with the use f slar energy. They call the device a slar tree.Slar trees have metal “branches”(分枝).Each branch hlds a slar panel(太阳能电池板).These panels have flat surfaces that cllect energy frm the sun and turn it int electricity.
Daljit Singh Bedi is the chief(首席的)scientist at the Cuncil f Scientific and Industrial Research in India.Bedi says the shape f the slar trees makes it pssible t fit mre slar panels in a space than traditinal systems d.This means less land wuld be needed t prduce slar energy.“It takes abut fur square meters f space t prduce energy.Hwever,400 square meters f space wuld be required in the past t prduce the same energy,” he says.
Scientists believe the energy that a slar tree cllects will be enugh t pwer five hmes. The slar tree will make it easier t prvide slar energy fr hmes in cities. The trees will als take less space frm farmers in the cuntryside. And that way peple are able t use 10 t 15 percent mre energy.
Amit Kumar is a senir engineer f the Energy and Resurces Institute in New Delhi. He says that it is still nt clear hw useful these new develpments in slar pwer technlgy are.“Only when we put thse trees n a large scale(规模)will we be able t get that answer,” he says.
