I dn’t think translatin apps will make learning freign languages cmpletely utdated. N prgram can accurately recreate the implicatin f real cnversatin. Fr example, by drpping “will” r “am ging t” in “Tmrrw I start my diet,” I am implying a previus delay f the diet. A typical translatin by apps wuld be “Tmrrw I am ging t start my diet,” which gets acrss the basic idea but lacks the intended implicatin.
Hwever, technlgy is eliminating the need t learn freign languages fr practical purpses such as reserving htel rms r rdering meals in a freign cuntry, since practicality is why mst peple want t learn a new language.
Duglas Hfstadter, a cgnitive scientist, sees his mastery f freign languages as a reflectin f his identity.
