Accrding t Shruti Nath, this mdel, which nly requires a ntebk cmputer t run, withut the need fr expensive supercmputers, gives lcal meterlgical (气象的) rganizatins an affrdable way f making mre accurate frecasts in an area where there is a shrtage f accurate bservatinal data. The researchers say the prject culd change early warning systems in East Africa, making the area get better prepared fr the extreme weather caused by climate change.
Traditinally, many frecasting rganizatins in Africa had nt gd cmputatinal resurces. The prject is supprted by an IT cmpany, which prvides funding and cmputatinal resurces. This apprach gives them the ability t use AI t make frecasting at the least cmputatinal expense.
The mdel is currently being rlled ut in Kenya and Ethipia. If successful in East Africa, researchers hpe t use it in ther parts f the wrld facing similar challenges. Mre cuntries are trying t spread the technlgy as well as build lcal wnership and trust.
