I’ve been in an 18-year lve-hate relatinship with a black walnut tree.
It’s a unique tree. In late September r early Octber, falling fruits as hard as baseballs threaten the skulls (头骨) f yu, yur children, yur neighbrs and thse that live next dr t them. Umbrellas in the yard are a must while dining in early August, and as fr me, I wear my bike helm et while wrking in the garden.
The black walnut als releases a chemical substance thrugh its rts as a cmpetitive strategy. It’s pisnus t several cmmn plants. There have been many new plant varieties that I brught hme with hpes that maybe the black walnut wuld accept them, but they failed t grw.
What des wrk are native plants that naturally grw in the area. Native plants are imprtant t have arund since they prvide beneficial pllinatrs (传粉者) like birds, bees and butterflies with seeds and cntribute t a healthy and bidiverse envirnment. Native plants fr this area are generally easy t grw, s they experience less stress.
Have I thught f getting rid f this giant pain in my tiny backyard? Yes, hwever, getting rid f this tree standing at 50 feet with an 87-inch trunk is next t impssible. It’s als prtected under the law. Rightfully s. Trees are imprtant t the urban frest and fr all f thse that inhabit it.
Smetimes I think abut my life withut the black walnut. I can’t imagine a spring withut the birds wh arrive every year and ludly sing their sngs befre dawn. I’d miss falling asleep n lazy weekend afternns as I lk up int its leaves.
Every spring, I wnder what the seasn hlds: What are the chances f being kncked uncnscius while barbecuing? Like any gd relatinship, I’ll never be pleased. I’m stuck with this tree, s I’ll listen t its needs and give it the space it requires. In return, my walnut ffers a habitat fr wildlife and a reminder.

Over time, I settled. Nw I’ve lived in Sheffield lnger than in my hmetwn. Yet n matter hw happy I am in my adpted city, there’s always a desire t return t Wales. The simple answer is that the idea f hme desn’t necessarily relate t time spent in a place — instead, it is abut a special cnnectin and a feeling f safety.
“Hmesickness usually cmes frm being smewhere that desn’t quite feel like hme,” says psychlgist Wendy Dignan. “As humans, we create a safe zne (地带). Sme peple may nt be particularly attached (依恋) t a place, s they always feel safe. Hwever, thers’ safe zne might be a particular place, a hme, r a familiar persn, the absence f which may lead t hmesıckness.”
There are things yu can help yurself if yu are struggling with hmesickness. Dignan suggests ging t the same cffee shp r gym at a certain time t build a pattern f familiarity because, it is a useful tl fr vercming hmesickness and building that all-imprtant safe zne. When s much in ur lives is unpredictable, it is n surprise that we crave safe zne.

“Wman reading bk, under a night sky, dreamy atmsphere,” I type int Deep Dream Generatr’s Text 2 Dream feature. In less than a minute, an image is returned t me shwing what I’ve described.
Welcme t the wrld f AI image generatin, where yu can create what n the surface lks like tp-rank artwrk using just a few text prmpts (提示). But clser examinatin shws ddities. The face f the wman in my image has very dd features, and appears t be hlding multiple bks. And, while there’s an initial thrill at seeing an image appear, there’s n creative satisfactin.
AI image generatin culd influence everything frm film t graphic nvels and mre. Children’s illustratrs were quick t raise cncerns abut the technlgy. Whatever frm it takes, true art is abut the creative prcess much mre than it’s abut the final piece. And simply pressing a buttn t generate an image is nt a creative prcess.
Beynd creativity, there are deeper issues. T create images frm prmpts, AI generatrs rely n databases f already existing art and text. This culd lead t the creatin f images that are intentinally meant t imitate (模仿) the style f ther artists, withut their agreement. There is an argument that AI generatrs wrk n differently t humans when it cmes t being influenced by thers’ wrk. Hwever, a human artist is als adding emtin and slight difference int the mix. AI desn’t d the same—it can nly cpy.
The increasing use f AI will als lead t a devaluing f the wrk f artists. There’s already a negative prejudice twards the creative industry. Peple will begin t think that their “wrk” is as excellent as that created by smene wh has spent a career making art. It’s nnsense, f curse. Yu can use yur mbile phne t take a nice picture f yur daughter, but yu are n match fr prfessinals.
12.What des the writer think f his image creatin?
A. Exciting.B. Cncerned.
C. Unsatisfying.D. Shcking.

A. The ethical cncerns in AI art imitatin.
B. Human artists’ influence n AI generatrs.
C. The superirity f human artwrks.
D. The ver-reliance f human n technlgy.
15.Which f the fllwing best summarizes the last paragraph?

C. N man can d tw things at nce.D. Dn’t judge a bk by its cver.
