Step 1 Warming up & Pre-listening
本节课的warm up就相当于pre-listening,二者可以用同一个活动。
Pair wrk / Grup wrk
Step 1: Ask Ss t pair up (r wrk in a grup f fur) and share with their partner(s) f what they usually have in their schlbags.
Step 2: T can give Ss sme examples (e.g. statinery, pencil bag, bks, learning materials, hmewrk).

While-listening

Play the recrding, ask Ss t listen and write dwn the things in the schlbag.
(Tips: Befre playing the recrding, tell Ss that althugh this cnversatin is shrt, it cntains a bit f infrmatin. Encurage them t take as many ntes as pssible. This will als be useful fr them when they d activity 2c.)

Befre Ss attempt this exercise, ask them if they still remember what mdal verbs are.
Mdal verbs shw the cnditin f a verb — e.g. ability, necessity, pssibility — and must always be used with a main verb.
Ask Ss t list all the mdal verbs they can remember.
e.g. may, might, must, will, wuld, can, culd, shall, shuld, need, ught t
Get Ss refer t the mdal verbs listed in the textbk. Take them thrugh it befre they attempt this exercise.
Play the recrding again and ask Ss t fill in the blanks.

Suppse yu and yur friend find a bk (r smething else) in the cafeteria and yu need t find the wner. Make a cnversatin and make inference abut wh the bk belngs t.
Step 4 Language pints learning
attend, jin, jin in和take part in的区别:
attend常指参加或出席正式的活动或场合,如婚礼、会议等。
jin多指参加某个组织、团体,并成为其中的一员。
jin in多指参加活动、加入游戏等。
take part in指参加群众性活动、会议等,往往指参加者持有积极的态度,并起一定的作用。
valuable与wrth的区别:
valuable常指物质、金钱方面,强调物品贵重、珍贵。
wrth既指物质上的, 也指精神上的, 强调价值。“be wrth + 钱数”意为“值……钱”;be wrth ding sth. 意为“值得做某事”。
valuable作表语时可与介词t构成短语be valuable t sb.,意思是“对某人来说有价值”。
pick up有很多意思,常见的有“拾起;捡起”“(开车)接人”。
pick up是典型的“动副型”短语,代词it / them作宾语时,要放在pick与up中间

The mst imprtant thing in this lessn is t get students t practice making inference and distinguishing the meaning f “must”, “culd”, “might”, “can’t”. During the class, we need t ask students t pay attentin t the sentences which used the mdal verbs t make inferences. Besides, we need t create a cntext t help students practice the target language in the class.
