    2. What d yu knw abut utdr parties? What are peple suppsed t d at utdr parties?
    Step 2 Presentatin & Practice
    Pre-listening
    Ask Ss t read Maria’s mistakes in 2a. Let them guess the mistakes Maria might make.
    While-listening

    Play the recrding, ask Ss t check if they have guessed crrectly.

    Play the recrding again and ask mre detailed questins t help Ss understand the listening material better. Remind Ss t take ntes while listening and tell them that they will use these ntes t d the exercises in 2b.
    1. Hw many mistakes did Maria make?
    2. When was she suppsed t arrive? When did she arrive? Why did she arrive late?
    3. Hw did she greet Paul’s mm? What was she suppsed t d when she greeted Paul’s mm?
    4. What did she wear at the party? What was she suppsed t wear? Why?

    Ask Ss t fill in the blanks fr this activity based n the ntes they have taken. Get them t share their answers with a partner.

    Get Ss t rle-play the cnversatin using the infrmatin in their listening practice. Then get each pair f Ss t switch partners with anther pair and rle-play the cnversatin again. Next get them t g back t their riginal partners and share hw different the cnversatins were, if at all.
    Shw Ss the chart n PPT P14, ask them t cmpare the custms abut time, greetings and dressing between Maria’s cuntry and America.
    In Maria’s cuntry: Peple are suppsed t arrive late. Peple are suppsed t kiss when they meet fr the first time. Peple are suppsed t wear a suit r fancy dress t the party.
    America: Peple are suppsed t arrive n time. Peple are suppsed t shake hands when they meet. Peple are suppsed t wear a T-shirt and jeans t an utdr party.

    Pre-reading
    Create a cntext fr Ss and ask them t think abut the questin:
    Jhn went t a welcme party fr freign students last night. He met a Japanese student. Smething funny happened between them. Can yu guess what happened?
    While-reading
    Ask tw vlunteers t rle play the cnversatin. While they are reading, ask the rest f the Ss t clse their textbks. Remind the readers t pay attentin t their tnes, bdy languages and expressins.
    Pst-reading
    T help them better understand the cnversatin, ask them t answer the fllwing questins after reading:
    1. Wh is Sat?
    2. What did Jhn d when he met Sat?
    3. Hw are peple in Japan expected t greet each ther?
    4. What did Katie d when she met Marie?
    5. Hw did Katie feel when Marie kissed her n bth sides f her
    face?
    6. Hw are peple in France expected t greet each ther? Is it plite
    if yu dn’t d the same thing?
    Think-Pair-Share
    Get Ss t pair up, give them several minutes f thinking time and ask them t think abut the questins: What did yu learn frm the cnversatin? What ther culture differences did yu knw between China and ther cuntries? Then, let Ss t share their answers with their partners.
    Step 4 Language pints learning
    mistake n. 错误 / v. 误解; 误会, 其过去式为mistk,过去分词为mistaken。其常用短语有:
    make a mistake 犯错误
    by mistake 错误地
    mistake ... fr ... 把 错当成
    as sn as的意思是“一就”,常用来引导时间状语从句, 强调两个动作几乎同时发生。需要注意的是当as sn as引导时间状语从句时,若主句用一般将来时,从句则用一般现在时。若主句为祈使句或含有情态词,从句也要用一般现在时。
    find ut的意思是“查明, 弄清(情况)”,find ut后可接由that, what, when或hw等引导的宾语从句, 也可接名词。
    find ut与lk fr和find的区别是:
    find ut意为“弄清; 查明”, 指通过观察、探索或调查而得。
    lk fr意为“寻找”, 强调找的动作和过程。
    find意为“找到;发现”, 强调找的结果。

    Teaching Reflectin
    In this lessn, it is imprtant t get the students t knw the main structure “be suppsed t”, “be expected t”, and get the students t practice them in listening and speaking. And we shuld learn the new wrds and expressins in the first perid f the unit. We’d better learn them by using them in listening, speaking and reading activities. And we always learn them in the meaning grup.
