They will make it all the way t suthern Canada, and at the end f summer, a new super generatin is brn that migrates all the way suth and survives thrugh the winter. Since it takes multiple generatins f milkweed- eating caterpillars t get the mnarch ppulatin frm Mexic t Canada each year, the mnarchs rely n milkweed plants thrughut their migratin path,” says Klinger, the study’s lead authr and a Gegraphic Infrmatin Systems analyst in the Keller Science Actin Center.
Klinger and his clleague wrked with vlunteers arund Chicagland t mnitr milkweed plants in their yards and neighbrhds fr mnarch butterflies laying their eggs n the plants and caterpillars eating the milkweed leaves.

What species f milkweed, hw many plants, hw big f a garden? There are s many questins t answer, s we were hping that we culd use this prject and the data frm it t start answering thse questins,” says Klinger.
