Currently, Msquera serves as a design strategist fr a prminent architecture and interir design cmpany in Washingtn, D. C. In additin t her prfessinal cmmitments, she harbrs a lng-standing and prfund interest in public art. This year, she played a crucial rle in creating and designing “The Walkway” fr the D. C. gvernment. This unique structure, an 11-meter-lng tunnel-like creatin, narrws sharply as ne walks thrugh. Bright lights change clrs alng the path. On the walls are images f peple. Vices and city sunds are played thrugh speakers installed in the walkway. At first, the recrded cnversatins and street nise and pictures have a psitive feel. But the images and audi increase in intensity alng the path. The experience becmes dark and vilent in the middle part f the walkway. “The purpse f shwing these tw different human emtins and human reactins is t allw peple t reflect upn a variety f different expressins, s that brings up the cnversatin as t what is the right way t talk t each ther in a public space. Shuld we talk t each ther at all? S peple are really questining that. And that’s what public art is meant t d,” said Msquera.
Fr Msquera, the physical experience f this structure has a far greater impact than merely viewing it n paper. In her free time, she delights in develping public art, firmly believing that the best way t learn is thrugh hands-n wrk and taking n as many prjects as pssible. Industrial design, in her view, makes her a jack f all trades.

Recently, campaigners have encuraged us t buy lcal fd. This reduces “fd miles”, that is, the distance fd travels t get frm the prducer t the retailer. They reasn that the higher the fd miles, the mre carbn emissins. Buying lcal fd, therefre, has a lwer carbn ftprint and is mre envirnmentally friendly.
Hwever, the real stry is nt as simple as that. If ur aim is t reduce carbn emissins, we must lk at the whle farming prcess, nt just transprtatin. Other prcesses, including fertilizatin, strage, heating and irrigatin, cntribute much mre.
In fact, imprted fd ften has a lwer carbn ftprint than lcally grwn fd. Take apples fr example. In autumn, when apples are harvested, the best ptin fr a British resident is t buy British apples. Hwever, the apples we buy in winter r spring have been kept refrigerated fr mnths, and this uses up a lt f energy. In spring, therefre, it is mre energy- efficient t imprt them frm New Zealand, where they are in seasn. Heating als uses a lt f energy, which is why grwing tmates in heated greenhuses in the UK is less envirnmentally friendly than imprting them frm Spain, where the crp grws well in the lcal climate.
We must als take int accunt the type f transprt. Transprting fd by air creates abut 50 times mre emissins than shipping it. Hwever, nly a small prprtin f gds are flwn t the cnsumer cuntry, and these are usually high value, perishable items which we cannt prduce lcally. Even then, these fds may nt have a higher carbn ftprint than lcally grwn fd. Fr example, beans flwn in frm Kenya are grwn in sunny fields using manual labur and natural fertilizers, unlike in Britain, where we use il-based fertilizers and diesel machinery. Therefre, the ttal carbn ftprint is still lwer.
It’s als wrth remembering that a prduct’s jurney des nt end at the supermarket. The distance cnsumers travel t buy their fd, and the kind f transprt they use will als add t its carbn ftprint. S driving a lng way t shp fr fd will negate any envirnmental benefits f buying lcally grwn prduce.
Recently, sme supermarkets have been trying t raise awareness f fd miles t. But ultimately, the measures are t simple. Lts f different factrs cntribute t a fd’s carbn ftprint besides the distance it has travelled.
28. Why is imprting apples frm New Zealand mre energy-efficient fr British residents in spring?
A. It reduces fd miles.
B. British apples are in shrt supply.
C. New Zealand apples are cheaper.
D. British apples have been stred under energy-cnsuming cnditins.
29. Which f the fllwing statements is crrect accrding t the passage?
A All imprted fd has a higher carbn ftprint than lcally grw n fd.
B. Beans flwn in frm Kenya have higher carbn ftprints than grwn in Britain.
C. Transprting fd by air always results in a higher carbn ftprint than grwing lcal fd.
D. Only cnsidering fd miles is an versimplified way t assess a fd’s envirnmental impact.
30. The underlined wrd “negate” in paragraph 5 prbably means ________.
A. enhanceB. ignreC. cancel utD. misunderstand
31. What is the authr’s attitude twards buying lcal fd?
A. Strngly supprtive. B. Cmpletely ppsed. C. Cautiusly skeptical. D. Smewhat indifferent.
D

They are using the bacteria methd t remve glue frm artwrks. The mther-daughter team feeds small amunts f the glue made frm animal cllagen (胶原) — t the bacteria. After a time, the bacteria begins t naturally prduce enzymes (酶) t break dwn the glue. Then they mix the bacteria with a natural algae-based substance, called a gel, and place it nt the paintings. After abut three hurs, the gel mixture is remved, leaving the paintings glue-free.
Bsch’s mther, nw 75, nted that in the past, restrers f artwrks had t use traditinal cleaning methds that “tk hurs and damaged the painting”. She nted that several ther relatives in the family als wrk in art restratin. Bsch agreed, saying the wrk “certainly runs in the family”.
Bsch has als used her bacteria remval prcess in ther restratin prjects in Italy and Spain. And, she is nw training ther scientists t use a different kind f bacteria t clear walls f painted graffiti.
32. Where did Bsch get the idea fr the bacteria-based restratin methd?

B. The bacteria methd is less damaging than traditinal cleaning methds.
C. Bsch’s relatives have always been using innvative methds in art restratin.
D. The bacteria used in the restratin prcess will cause harm t the paintings.
35. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the passage?
A. The Future f Art RestratinB. The Challenges f Art Restratin
C. Bacteria: Revlutinizing Art RestratinD. Bacteria: Disrupting Art Restratin

24—27. BCAB
文中第一段提到“The academic jurney was far frm easy, filled with demanding tasks such as metalwrking, wdwrking, and mdel making.(学术之旅并不容易,充满了苛刻的任务,如金属加工,木工和模型制作)”可知,学业之旅包括金属加工、木工和模型制作等艰巨的任务。wdwrking(木工)即carpentry wrk(木工活),故选B。
根据文中第二段提到“The purpse f shwing these tw different human emtins and human reactins is t allw peple t reflect upn a variety f different expressins, s that brings up the cnversatin as t what is the right way t talk t each ther in a public space.(展示这两种不同的人类情感和人类反应的目的是让人们反思各种不同的表达方式,从而引发人们在公共空间中相互交谈的正确方式)”可以推断出“The Walkway”是为了让人们思考公共交流(C选项正确),A选项“声音来自路人”错误,且文中第二段提到“Vices and city sunds are played thrugh speakers installed in the walkway.(人声和城市的声音通过安装在人行道上的扬声器播放)”,声音来自安装的扬声器。
故选A。
从第一段中“But she sldiered n and sn began wrking n mre captivating prjects.(但她坚持了下来,很快就开始从事更吸引人的项目)”Zarela Msquera在面对工业设计课程的困难时坚持下来以及第二段中“she harbrs a lng-standing and prfund interest in public art. This year, she played a crucial rle in creating and designing “The Walkway” fr the D.C. gvernment.(她对公共艺术有着长期而深刻的兴趣。

根据文章第三段中的“Hwever, the apples we buy in winter r spring have been kept refrigerated fr mnths, and this uses up a lt f energy. In spring, therefre, it is mre energy-efficient t imprt them frm New Zealand, where they are in seasn.
根据文章第二段中的“If ur aim is t reduce carbn emissins, we must lk at the whle farming prcess, nt just transprtatin. 以及最后一段中的“Lts f different factrs cntribute t a fd’s carbn ftprint besides the distance it has travelled.
根据文章第五段“It’s als wrth remembering that a prduct’s jurney des nt end at the supermarket. The distance cnsumers travel t buy their fd, and the kind f transprt they use will als add t its carbn ftprint.
根据第二段中的“Hwever, the real stry is nt as simple as that. 以及文章第五段“It’s als wrth remembering that a prduct’s jurney des nt end at the supermarket. The distance cnsumers travel t buy their fd, and the kind f transprt they use will als add t its carbn ftprint.

根据第四段中“Bsch said her mther, Pilar Rig, nted hw difficult the restratin prcess at the church was. One reasn was the glue used t remve the paintings frm the walls in the 1960s. The substance was nearly impssible t remve cmpletely. 这种物质几乎不可能完全清除)”以及第五段中“My mther had a very difficult prblem t slve and I fund a paper abut bacteria used t clean murals in Italy. 故选A。
根据第六段“Bsch added she decided t write her dctral paper n the same subject. That was mre than ten years ag. Tday, she gets t wrk with her mther n the church restratin. They are using the bacteria methd t remve glue frm artwrks. The mther-daughter team feeds small amunts f the glue made frm animal cllagen — t the bacteria. After a time, the bacteria begins t naturally prduce enzymes t break dwn the glue. Then they mix the bacteria with a natural algae-based substance, called a gel, and place it nt the paintings. After abut three hurs, the gel mixture is remved, leaving the paintings glue-free. 故选A。
根据第七段“Bsch’s mther, nw 75, nted that in the past, restrers f artwrks had t use traditinal cleaning methds that “tk hurs and damaged the painting”.
根据第一段“Spanish scientist Pilar Bsch has fund a way t use bacteria t repair 18th-century paintings.

故填which。
故填being。
