Inspired by a Canadian cuple, we decided t start ur wn travel blg. We began by writing abut The Virgin Islands, highlighting the beautiful beaches. Hwever, fr every pht album f a beautiful beach, there were 10 phts f trash (垃圾). It was hard t ignre the plastic pllutin issue, especially n such primitive and remte beaches. S, we began t share phts f the trash we saw and hw much we culd pick up n ur daily dg walks.
The mre we lked int plastic pllutin, the mre we realized the severity f the glbal plastic pllutin. Frm that pint, we used ur platfrm t create awareness and highlight ways t say n t plastic and travel plastic- free. We changed ur daily rutines, ur way f living, and even ur diets t accmmdate mre rganic fds and little t n plastic packaging.
It's been ver three years nw and we cntinue t d what we can. This jurney has led us t sme amazing places, wrking with great brands and even rganizing a cuntry- wide beach clean- up campaign in Grenada.
Our aim nw is t keep n ging. We lve cnnecting with like- minded peple. It's been amazing few years that was sparked by a cnversatin abut pet sitting. Wh wuld have guessed?

One f the majr reasns we take phts in the first place is t remember a mment lng after it has passed: the birth f a baby, a reunin, etc. Hwever, every time we snap a quick picture f smething, we culd in fact be harming ur memry f it.
Linda Henkel, a prfessr f psychlgy at Fairfield University in Cnnecticut, studied hw taking phts impacts experience and memry. She cnducted an experiment using a grup f undergraduates n a guided tur f the university’s Bellarmine Museum f Art. The students were asked t take phts f bjects that they lked at n the tur and t simply bserve thers. Later, she tested their memry f all the bjects they had seen n the tur. The results were clear. Overall, peple remembered fewer f the bjects they had phtgraphed. They als culdn't recall as many specific visual details f the phtgraphed art, cmpared t the art they had merely bserved.
“ When yu take a pht f smething, yu' re cunting n the camera t remember fr yu,” Henkel said.“ Yu dn't engage in any f the cmplex r emtinal kinds f prcessing that really wuld help yu remember thse experiences, because yu' ve utsurced it t yur camera.”
Then, Henkel ran anther study. This time when peple tk a tur f the museum, they were asked t take tw kinds f phts: thse f the bjects in the exhibit alne and thse with them standing next t the bjects. It turns ut that it actually changes their viewpint n the experience, whether they' re in a pht r nt. In ther wrds, if yu are in the image, yu becme mre remved frm the riginal mment as if yu are an bserver watching yurself ding smething utside yurself. Interestingly, if yu are nt in the image, yu remember mre.
Henkel desn't disagree that the purpse f utsurcing ur memry-t devices can free up ur brains t d ther cgnitive(认知的) prcessing. But frm the experiments Henkel is sure that cameras can't cmpare t what the brain is capable f with input frm the eyes and the ears.
    28. What can we cnclude frm Henkel's first experiment?
    A. Peple take phts t remember a mment.
    B. Taking phts is a cmplex r emtinal prcess.
    C. Taking phts influences experience and memry.
    D. Peple bserve mre f the bjects when taking phts.
    29. When yu are in a pht, yu .
    A. return t the riginal mment B. remember mre abut the bject
    C. change yur viewpint n the pht D. becme an bserver utside yurself
    30. What is the authr's purpse in writing this passage?
    A. T explain the reasns why peple take phts.
    B. T intrduce the disadvantages f taking phts.
    C. T persuade peple nt t rely n phts fr memry.
    D. T express disapprval f the use f devices t free brains.
    D
The car has reshaped ur cities. It seems t ffer autnmy fr everyne. There is smething almst delightful in the separatin frm reality f advertisements shwing mass- prduced cars marketed as symbls f individuality and f freedm when mst f their lives will be spent making shrt jurneys n chked rads.
Despite tp speeds and crnering ability advertised, the mst useful gadgets n a mdern car are thse which wrk when yu' re ging very slwly: parking sensrs, sund systems, and navigatin apps which will shw a way arund upcming traffic jams. These apps knw where almst all the users are, and hw fast they are mving almst all the time, they can spt traffic cngestin(堵塞) very quickly and suggest ways rund it.
The prblem cmes when everyne is using a navigatin app which tells them t avid everyne else using the same gadget. Traffic jams ften appear where n ne has enugh infrmatin t avid them. When a lucky few have access t the knwledge, they will benefit greatly. But when everyne has perfect infrmatin, traffic jam s simply spread nt the side rads that seem t ffer a way rund them.
This new cngestin teaches us tw things. The first is that the prmises f technlgy will never be realised as fully as we hpe. They will be limited by their unfreseen and unintended cnsequences. Sitting in a mre cmfrtable car in a different traffic jam is pleasant but hardly the liberatin that nce seemed t be prmised. The secnd is that self-rganisatin will nt get us where we want t g. The effrts f millins f drivers t get ahead d nt miraculusly prduce a situatin in which everyne des better than befre, but ne in which almst everyne des rather wrse. Central cntrl and cllective rganizatin can prduce smther and fairer utcmes, thugh even that much is never guaranteed.
Similar limits can be freseen fr the much greater advances prmised by self- driving cars. One autnmusly perated car by the taxi cmpany Uber struck and killed a wman pushing her bicycle acrss a wide rad in Arizna. Experts have said that it suggests a“ catastrphic failure” f technlgy.
Increasingly, even the tp tech- cmpany has t acknwledge the csts f intxicating(令人陶醉的) hurry that characterizes its culture. What traffic teaches us is that reckless and uncntrlled change is as likely t harm us as it is t benefit us, and that thughtful regulatin is necessary fr a better future.
    31. What can we infer abut the car advertisements?
    A. They present a false picture f the cars.
    B. They emphasize the mass prductin f cars.
    C. They prtray drivers enjying speed n the rad.
    D. They pursue individuality and freedm in design.
    32. What can we knw abut the varius gadgets n cars?
    A. They are cnstantly upgraded. B. All f them are used effectively.
    C. Only sme can be used frequently. D. They can help t relieve traffic jams.
    33. What des the authr say abut the use f the navigatin app?
    A. It benefits thse wh are learning t drive.
    B. It is likely t create traffic jams in ther places.
    C. It helps a great deal in easing traffic cngestin.
    D. It sharply reduces the ccurrence f traffic accidents.
    34. What d we learn abut technlgy frm the passage?
    A. It seldm delivers all the benefits as prmised.
    B. Its cnsequences are usually difficult t assess.
    C. Its benefits are guaranteed by cllective wisdm.
    D. It depends n the required knwledge fr applicatin.
    第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)

In a perfect wrld, peple wuld nt test medicines n animals. Such experiments are stressful and smetimes painful fr animals, and expensive and time- cnsuming fr peple. 35 That is why there are sme 50 t 100 millin animals used in research arund the wrld each year.
36 Even s, its scientists use sme 12 millin animals a year, mst f them mice and rats, fr medical research. Official statistics shw that just 1.1 millin animals are used in research in America each year. But that is misleading. The American gvernment des nt think mice and rats are wrth cunting and, as these are the mst cmmn labratry animals, the true figure is much higher. 37
Nw Eurpe is changing the rules gverning animal experiments by limiting the number f animals used in labs. 38 In additin, sharing all research results freely shuld help t reduce the number f animals fr scientific use. At present, scientists ften share nly the results f successful experiments. If their findings d nt fit the hypthesis(假说) being tested, the wrk never sees the light f day. This practice means wasting time, mney, and animals' lives in endlessly repeating the failed experiments.
Animal experimentatin has taught humans a great deal and saved cuntless lives. 39 Eurpe's new measures shuld eventually bth reduce the number f animals used in experiments and imprve the way in which scientific research is dne.
A . They shuld be stpped.
B . Lab animals are mainly used in develped cuntries.
C . Japan has even less cmprehensive data than America.
D . It needs t cntinue, even if that means animals smetimes suffer.
E . Eurpe, n the whle, has the wrld's mst restrictive laws n animal experiments.
F . Yet animal experimentatin is still needed t help bridge wide gap s in medical knwledge.
G . Alternatives t animal testing, like using human tissue, are nw strngly recmmended.
