1. There are 3 different kinds f elephant species.
the African bush elephant, the African frest elephant, and the Asian elephant
Elephants use their trunks nt nly t breathe, smell and eat, but t grasp the trees, pick up bjects weighing as much as 700 punds, dig fr water, and give themselves shwers.
2. An elephant's trunk is an all-purpse tl.
The large surface area f its ears is lined with many bld vessels, which take heat away and thus help t cl the temperature dwn in the ht sun.
3. An elephant’s ears help t dissipate heat (散热).
4. Elephants are extremely intelligent animals.
Nt nly can elephants use tls with their trunks, but they als display a high degree f self-awareness (fr example, recgnizing themselves in mirrrs) and empathy (同感) tward ther members.

Elephants have a unique scial structure: males and females live apart. Three r fur females, tgether with their yung, live tgether in grups f up t a dzen, while males either live alne r frm smaller grups with ther males.
6. Pregnancy (孕期) f the elephant lasts almst tw years.
Abut 22 mnths, African elephants have the lngest gestatin perid f any land mammal (陆地哺乳动物). Newbrn elephants weigh abut 110kg, and they usually have t wait at least fur r five years with their mther.

Elephants have an great influence n their habitats, trees, etc. Their behavirs benefit nt nly the elephants themselves, but als ther animals, which take advantage f these envirnmental changes (fr example, African elephants have been knwn t dig caves, which are then used as shelter by bats, insects and smaller mammals).
