After several dialgues, like “Eating t much sugar?” “Tth decay!”, the tester ndded her head. “Okay, Hank, tell me what yu'd d if yu went int a dark rm.” Withut thinking, Hank said, “Be brave.”
The tester waited a mment befre prmting, “What else wuld yu d? Wuldn't yu turn n a light?” “Oh, yeah,” Hank said, “if I culd reach it.”
Obviusly, being brave wasn't the expected answer, but as I listened, all I culd think abut was hw many events awaited him when bravery wuld be enrmusly helpful. While it's smart t turn n a light, it never hurts t be brave while yu're waiting fr yur eyes t adjust t the sudden brightness. Frm the muth f my child, I realized that I'd handed my sn advice that applied t my life just as much as it did t his.

    Frankenstein: an undervalued nvel
Frankenstein’s mnster might be ne f the mst ppular rles peple play when celebrating Hallween. But d yu knw where this impressive image riginally cmes frm?
The creatin f Frankenstein dates back t the summer f 1816, when sme yung peple were spending their hliday in Switzerland. Usually the weather in summer was pleasant, but that summer it rained quite a lt, s fr mst f the time, the grup were trapped in their cttage. They started thinking abut entertaining activities t have fun. Finally, they decided t jin in the writing cmpetitin suggested by Lrd Byrn: Everyne shuld write a creepy ghst stry and share it with thers, and the writer f the creepiest ne wuld win. During the cmpetitin, 18-year-ld Mary Shelley came up with the idea f an ugly mnster created frm human bdy parts. Tw years later, she published her first nvel, Frankenstein.
Yet Frankenstein isn’t similar t ther hrrr bks. In the bk, the mnster can explain the stry frm his perspective (观点). Althugh he is scary, ugly, and vilent, he has understandable human emtins, and the bk indicates that his vilent actins are reasnable. He explains that he becmes cruel and vilent because he has been treated cruelly and vilently by the scientist wh creates him and als the peple he meets. The bk raises awareness f ur respnsibilities t ther peple and als inspires us t put urselves in thers’ shes.
It als talks abut an imaginary scientific experiment and its effects, and because f this, it is cnsidered as the first science fictin nvel, r the beginning f science fictin. This means that the nvel has prbably influenced a lt f science fictin created later. Perhaps withut Frankenstein, we wuldn’t have the chance t enjy Edward Scissrhands, Captain America, r Star Wars.
Hwever, I enjy Frankenstein mstly because it can be explained differently. The prblems it cvers are simple and universal. It can be understd as a metaphr fr family relatinships, human emtins, r individualism, r as a criticism f misuse f science.
    8. Which wrd best describes hw the stry f Frankenstein cmes int being?
    A. Hard.B. Accidentally.
    C. Mysteriusly.D. Amusingly.
    9. What des the underlined wrd “creepy” in Paragraph 2 mst prbably mean?
    A. Creative.B. Interesting.
    C. Strange.D. Frightening.
    10. In the authr’s pinin, what makes Frankenstein different frm ther hrrr bks?
    A. The way it cmes int being.
    B. The themes it tries t explre.
    C. The writing techniques it uses.
    D. The terrible experiences its character has.
    11. What is the main purpse f the text?
    A. T give cmments n Frankenstein.
    B. T recmmend the bk Frankenstein.
    C. T intrduce the stry in Frankenstein.
    D. T shw why the authr lves Frankenstein.
