Mst children, even the yungest children, are delighted t be arund cats and dgs.But these pets carry plenty f germs and allergens (过敏原),prmpting researchers t ask:Are cats and dgs really safe fr children?
A study finds that, cntrary t many parents’ fears, wning cats r dgs des nt increase a child’s risk f develping allergies, and in fact, may actually prtect them. The study’s lead authr,Dr. Dennis Ownby f the Medical Cllege f Gergia, said that even he was “very surprised” by the results.Ownby and clleagues fllwed mre than 470 children frm birth t age 6 r 7,cmparing thse expsed t cats and dgs during their first years f life t thse wh were nt.
By using skinprick tests fr detecting cmmn allergies, the researchers fund that, cntrary t what many dctrs had been taught fr years, children wh had lived with a pet were nt at greater risk.
Even mre remarkable, children wh had tw r mre dgs r cats had an even greater reductin,up t 77 percent,in risk f allergies.Researchers suggest this prtective effect may be the result f early expsure t lts f bacteria that are carried by dgs and cats.Expsing yung children t these bacteria helps “exercise” their immune systems early in life s that they’re better able t resist allergic diseases later.
“There’s smething very imprtant in the first years f life when the immune system is develping that we can retrain it away frm an allergic respnse,” saidDr. William Davis.
And while researchers are nt encuraging parents t buy dgs r cats just t reduce a
child’s allergy risk, they say if a family already has ne r mre animals, there’s n need t get rid f them.

D.Because children with animals may develp allergies easily.
答案 A

A.will lse the chance t develp immune system

fact, may actually prtect them.”和第三段“ nt at greater risk.”

A.pets are illtreated by their wners
B.less families wuld like t wn cats and dgs
