Hw d mercury and PCBs end up in fish and the fd supply?When they are released int the air,they attach themselves t particles.These particles settle n the grund and in the water and are eventually eaten by micrscpic rganisms.Small fish eat the micrrganisms,and large fish eat the small fish and n up the fd chain.
Because they can negatively affect yur health,the U.S.Envirnmental Prtectin Agency advises that kids yunger than 15 years ld avid fishes that cntain high levels f mercury and PCBs.These include shark,swrdfish,king mackerel,and tilefish.
There are als many fishes that are gd fr yu,but because f verfishing,sme are in danger f being wiped ut.Sme are being fished in the wild s much that they cannt reprduce fast enugh t survive.Others are being farmed in ways that are nt envirnmentally friendly.These fishes include red snapper,Atlantic salmn,bluefin tuna,and king crab.
