Since 2012,remte sensing(遥感）scientist Liu Shachuang has led a team in tracking and studying wild camels using satellite remte sensing technlgy. Living in the deserts in nrthwestern China and suthwestern Mnglia,the even-ted camel is listed as critically endangered by the Internatinal Unin fr Cnservatin f Nature.Experts believe that the ppulatin f this species is currently less than 1,000,f which arund 650 are in China.
＂Ten years ag,the research depended n human bservatin,which was very primitive(原始的），”Liu says.Because wild Bactrian camels are fully migratry and can travel ver lng distances,scientists used t learn their habits by studying ftprints and drppings.It was hard t find ne camel in the desert,let alne track it.Hwever,Liu thught his skills in remte sensing might cme in useful in the study f wild camels.
