    The theme f this part is abut writing abut what makes a great scientist. Students are suppsed t read the bigraphies f scientists Qian Xuesen and Hawking, and n the basis f discurse analysis, srt ut and refine the quality and scientific spirit f scientists, pay attentin t and learn the rle and functin f cnjunctins, and finally cmplete a shrt essay t explain the scientific spirit.
    1. Enable the Ss t get t knw the gd qualities great scientists share.
    2. Enable the Ss t understand the passage well.
    3. Let the Ss learn sme writing skills by scanning and skimming.
    4.T learn frm the great scientists and develp the nble spirits .

    2.Teach Ss t cmplete a shrt essay t explain the scientific spirit.
    Step1: Intrduce the tpic by raising a questin:
    Befre reading , the teacher first can raise a questin “What makes great scientists?” Students are inspired t speak up mre wrds t describe the gd spirits f a great scientist and then the teacher can draw a general cnclusin abut the answer t the questin.
    Great scientists are creative, respnsible, enthusiasitic, strng-minded, passinate; energetic, determined, devted, cmmitted, undefeatable, perseverant….
    They are thse wh made a great cntributin/made great achievements/succeeded in their scientific career/vercme many difficulties.
    Step2: Pre-reading
    Lk at the picture, the title and, guess what the cntent f the text is. Then ask students t skim it quickly t see if they are right.

    Step 3: Read and answer:
    Answer the questins belw using the infrmatin frm the texts.
    1. Why was Qian called "the father f China's aerspace"?
    2. Hw was Hawking's wn thery prven crrect?

    Stephen Hawking:
    brilliant; brave; smetimes careless in what he said r did; willing t say what thers were afraid t say; dream what thers were afraid t dream abut; quite determined; willin gt admit his failure.
    In the case f Qian, we see his determinatin illustrated by his struggles, and hw he vercame challenges; his stry als shws he was patritic and devted t his career.
    In the case f Hawking, we als see his determinatin in the case f difficulty thrugh the stries tld abut him.
    Step 5: Writing strategy
