    When it cmes t the mst influential painters f the United States in the 20th century, Grandma Mses shuld be mentined, althugh she did nt start painting until she was in her late seventies.     She was brn n a farm in New Yrk State, ne f five bys and five girls. At 12 she left hme and was in the dmestic service sectr until at 27 she married Thmas Mses, the hired hand f ne f her emplyers. They farmed mst f their lives, first in Virginia and then at Eagle Bridge in New Yrk State. She had ten children, five f whm survived: he husband died in 1927.
    Grandma Mses painted a little as a child and she was really fnd f embridery(剌绣),but nly changed t ils in ld age because her hands became t stiff(僵硬的)t sew and she still wanted t keep busy and pass the time. Her pictures were first sld at the lcal drugstre and at a market and were sn nticed by a businessman wh purchased all that she painted. Three f the pictures were exhibited in the Museum f mdern art and in 1940 she had her first exhibitin in New Yrk. Between the 1930’s and her death, she prduced sme 2, 000 pictures: careful and lively prtrayals f the cuntry life she had knwn fr s lng with an amazing sense f clr and frm. “I think really hard till I think f smething really pretty, and then I paint it,” she said.

    Every year in May, art galleries and museums prepare shws t hnr Lenard da Vinci, wh died in France n May 2,1519. He is remembered as ne f the mst influential artists and creative thinkers f all time. His mst famus and representative paintings are Mna Lisa and The Last Supper.
    Recently, researchers have been studying a painting—Landscape 8P, which they think is Da Vinci’s earliest-knwn artwrk. They used special lighting t study the artwrk and discvered there are tw images, nt ne. One drawing is n the back f the piece, which dates back t August 5, 1473.
    The drawing n the frnt was painted when Lenard was 21 years ld. It shws a river valley and a castle utside the city f Flrence. There is little left f the drawing n the back, perhaps because it was wiped ff. Only a bridge ver a river can be seen. But there is writing n bth sides.
    The writing n the frnt gives the date and ges frm right t left. Sme peple wuld call this “mirrr writing”. It’s a way Lenard ften wrte in his ntebks. The writing n the back ges frm left t right and tells abut an agreement, prbably t prduce a wrk f art.
    Cecilia Frsinini is an art histrian. She said, “Lenard was brn left-handed, but was taught t write with his right hand frm a very yung age. By lking at his writing, we can see his right-handed handwriting is educated and well dne.”
    Experts cmpared the tw handwriting samples(样本)and said they were bth made by Lenard. They shw he culd write well using his left hand r his right hand.
