The Natinal Endwment fr the Arts and the Petry Fundatin started Petry Out Lud, because they realized that hearing a pem perfrmed is a different experience frm reading it n a page.
It’s nt just a matter f saying the wrds in the right rder. It’s the tne f vice, the pauses, the gestures and the attitude f the persn perfrming that bring the wrds t life. “Each time we hear smebdy recite a pem, we understand again what we fund fresh and interesting abut it,” said Natinal public Radi bradcaster Sctt Simn, master f ceremnies fr the finals. Hearing it in a new vice ffers smething new t the listeners.
Nt nly d the peple hearing pems have a new experience, but memrizing and presenting pems helps the participants (选手) understand thse pems in a new way. Anther benefit f a cmpetitin such as Petry Out Lud is that the participants learn public-speaking skills that can help them fr life.
