Welcme t the Chinese muntain city f Dali, als smetimes knwn as Dalifrnia, an asis fr China’s disaffected, drifting r just plain curius.
The area has lng been a hub fr backpackers and artists, wh were attracted by its cheap rents and idyllic ld twn, where ancient city gates and white-walled curtyard hmes pint t the histry f the Bai ethnic minrity, wh have lived there fr thusands f years.
But recently, Dali has been filled with a different crp f wandering suls: yung peple frm China’s large cities, fleeing the intense lifestyles that many f them nce lnged fr. Wrn ut by the high cst f living, cut-thrat cmpetitin, stressful jbs, and recrd yuth unemplyment, they have turned Dali int China’s destinatin f the mment.
A seemingly inescapable buzzwrd in Dali is healing. Healing yga, healing camping trips, even healing cffee shps. The therapeutic atmsphere was especially thick at Veggie Ark, a cmplex nrth f the ld twn that huses the vegan canteen, yga studis, gng lessns and a dye wrkshp. Eventually, it wuld als include a “self-sufficiency lab” that Tang Guanhua, 34, was building in the curtyard: a wden dme, cnstructed by hand, that when cmpleted wuld be pwered by slar energy, and serve as an exhibitin space fr handicrafts made with lcal materials. “I wanted the lab t encurage visitrs t try ut mre sustainable lifestyles,” said Tang.
Sme f the new arrivals say they want t stay frever; thers acknwledge they are lking just t try ut an alternative lifestyle befre returning t the city grind(苦差事). Still, even the mst cynical(愤世嫉俗的)bserver wuld admit that the city feels mre pen and relaxing than mst ther places in China.
“Peple here wn’t deliberately try t assign yu labels. Yu can just be yurself and be seen,” said Jey Chen, a 22-year-ld freelance writer wh had drpped ut f cllege and mved t Dall a mnth earlier frm Jiangxi prvince. Chen was sitting in the attic reading crner f a bkstre, devuring the Simne de Beauvir nvel All Men Are Mrtal. Dwnstairs, the walls were decrated with phts f Franz Kafka and Che Guevara.

The transprtatin f gds frms the basis f tday’s glbally distributed supply chains, and lng-distance trucking is a critical link in this cmplex system. T meet climate gals arund the wrld, hydrgen-based ptins have becmea prmising strategy.
Hwever, hydrgen has significant limitatins when it cmes t delivery and refueling. These radblcks, cmbined with hydrgen’s cnvincing ptential f reducing CO2 emissins, mtivated a team f researchers led by William H. Green. They intended t explre a way t transprt and stre hydrgen using liquid rganic hydrgen carriers(LOHCs), which are rganic substances that can absrb and release hydrgen thrugh chemical reactins. The team is develping a new technlgy that allws LOHCs t nt nly deliver hydrgen t the trucks but als stre hydrgen nbard.
Currently, LOHCs, which wrk within the existing system f fuel distributin, are used t deliver hydrgen t refueling statins, where it is then prcessed and delivered nt trucks equipped with hydrgen fuel cells.
“The current apprach causes significant energy lss at the refueling statin,” says Green. “T address this, ur wrk is explring a mre efficient applicatin, with LOHCs-pwered trucks featuring nbard dehydrgenatin(脱氢).”
T carry ut such a design, the team aims t adjust the truck’s pwertrain(传动系统)t allw nbard hydrgen release frm the LOHCs, using waste heat frm the engine exhaust pipe(排气管). The dehydrgenatin prcess happens within a high-temperature reactr, which cntinually receives hydrgen-rich LOHCs frm the fuel strage tank. Hydrgen released frm the reactr is fed t the engine. On its way t the engine, sme f the hydrgen is redirected t a burner t heat the reactr, which helps increase the reactr heating.
Regardless f technical imprvements, these existing ptins remain quite expensive due t the high cst f hydrgen delivery. “Using hydrgen is an ptin that is glbally accessible, and culd be extended t cuntries like the ne where I’m frm,” says Mren Sader, wh is frm Clmbia. “Since it wrks well with existing supprting facilities, large investments in advance are unnecessary. The glbal applicability is huge. There is als an enrmus ptential t imprve delivery and refueling t further reduce the cst, and ur system is wrking t d that,” says Sader.
28. What has kept hydrgen frm being widely used?
A. Its ptential threat t the envirnment.
B. Its cmplex prcess f pwer generatin.
C. Its restrictins n shipment and refueling.
D. Its incnvenience in prductin.
29. What can we knw abut the team’s new technlgy?
A. It enhances trucks’ carrying capacity.
B. It is intended t carry dangerus gases.
C. It helps design a new type f transprt truck.
D. It makes innvatins based n present LOHCs.
30. What des paragraph 5 mainly fcus n?
A. Added infrmatin abut LOHCs.
B. Challenges f redesigning the truck’s pwertrain.
C. An explanatin f the nbard dehydrgenatin prcess.
D. Advantages f using hydrgen in lng-distance transprtatin.
31. What des Mren Sader imply abut the applicatin f hydrgen?
A. It is a duble-edged swrd.
B. It requires huge investments.
C. It is wrth prmting wrldwide.
D. It facilitates technical imprvements.

Picture this: yu are running late t drp yur kids ff at schl in the mrning. On tp f this, it is puring rain utside. While yu are driving dwn the highway, anther car cuts yu ff. Yu begin t think he must be a rude persn wh is als a terrible driver. A cuple f minutes later, yu, yurself accidentally cut ff smene. Yu infrm yurself yur actin is a result f the fact that yu are late fr yur children’s drp-ff and yu cannt see well because f the rain. Why is it that we autmatically assume thers’ negative actins are a result f wh they are as a persn while giving urselves excuses? The actr- bserver bias is an explanatin fr this cnfusing phenmenn.
When yu explain smene’s behavir based n internal factrs, like assuming the persn wh cuts yu ff is a rude persn, but attribute(把……归因于)yur wn behavir t external situatinal factrs, yu are engaging in the actr-bserver bias.
S why des the actr-bserver effect ccur? The general explanatin is that it ccurs as a defense mechanism fr maintaining high persnal dignity. We wuld rather believe that ur faults cme frm factrs we cannt cntrl because then we cannt change them and it is easier fr us t accept the utcme.
The actr-bserver bias is the cause f many arguments between the actr and the bserver as a result f a misunderstanding f the effect f external and internal factrs. Hw can we stp thinking this way and becme mre sympathetic t the peple arund us? This is where it gets tricky because the bserver’s internal attributins are an autmatic prcess which means they ccur almst immediately and uncnsciusly.
In rder t becme mre sympathetic twards surrunding peple in situatins, we must make the attributins a cntrlled prcess. A cntrlled prcess is when the bserver purpsely fcuses attentin n smething and is cnsciusly aware f the prcess, unlike an autmatic prcess. Knwing what the actr-bserver effect is and hw it can influence yur wn attributins is a gd step tward becming mre sympathetic and kinder t peple yu interact with.
32. Hw wuld we define the ther driver’s behavir accrding t paragraph 1?
A. An emtinal utburst. B. A display f bad manners.
C. A mment f carelessness. D. An unavidable circumstance.
33. Why d we fall fr the actr-bserver bias?
A. T safeguard ur self-image.
B. T avid arguments with thers.
C. T prmte sympathy twards thers.
D. T ensure fairness in interpersnal interactins.
34. Hw might an bserver be mre cnsiderate t an actr’s actins?
A. By cncentrating n the situatinal factrs.
B. By making the attributin prcess autmatic.
C. By attributing these actins t internal factrs.
D. By imagining themselves in the same situatins.
35. What is the best title fr the text?
A. Why we repeat ur mistakes
B. Hw we can stp blaming thers
C. Why we always ignre ur wn faults
D. What is the science f being sympathetic

The game f baseball has lng been wven int the fabric f American life. It is n surprise then that the baseball glve is assciated with fnd memries. 36 It is als an example f a prduct that has been perfected ver time.
Originally, baseball was played withut glves because the balls were hme-made and sft. Made frm string cvered with leather r cttn sacks stuffed with rags, the balls were easier n the hand. The late 19th century saw baseballs made by machine and standardized acrss the United States t be tighter and harder, and they were capable f hurting a catcher’s hands. 37 Baseball glves were initially just leather wrk glves adapted t suit the player’s needs.
38 Hwever, the simple padded wrk glves culd nt prevent knuckles(指关节)frm bursting, fingers frm splitting and bnes frm breaking. The slutin? Mre padding was added t the glve.
39 This design changed little until the late1930s, when an extra flap web that lked like a fishing net was added between the thumb and the fingers. This made it pssible fr first basemen t catch thrwn balls mre easily, revlutinizing the functin f the glve.
During the first half f the 20th century, fielders’ glves evlved steadily t imprve their catch. Field glve designs were adapted with lnger fingers, deeper pckets and larger webs between the thumb and the fingers. New designs als added lace between the fingers, making it easier fr players t catch the ball. Even mre significantly, a new glve design was intrduced in 1957, with a special feature in the heel f the glve’s palm, which allwed the glve t cmpletely fld arund the ball. 40 This characteristic has becme the standard fr glve design t this day. Catchers’ and first basemen’s glves als adpted this style.
Frm fingerless wrk glves t flashy glves designed fr each psitin, the evlutin f the baseball glve since the early days f prfessinal baseball is as fascinating as the game itself. Due t technlgical advances, we may lk frward t even newer designs fr baseball glves.
A. Behind every glve is a great glve stry.
B. If a glve is well cared fr, it can last decades.
C. This led t glves being designed t sften the catch.
D. Hwever, the baseball glve is mre than an item f emtinal value.

F. Early first baseball glve designs were specialized frm the padded fielders’ glve t an pen glve design.
G. Fr example, catchers’ glves were wrk glves withut fingers t allw the player t better handle the ball.

根据最后一段 Mren Sader 提到“Using hydrgen is an ptin that is glbally accessible … applicability is huge.”
根据第一段中的“Yu begin t think he must be a rude persn wh is als a terrible driver.”
33. A。 第三段中的“it ccurs as a defense mechanism fr maintaining high persnal dignity”解释了“行动者—观察者效应”之所以会出现的原因;“We wuld rather believe that ur faults cme frm factrs we cannt cntrl because then we cannt change them and it is easier fr us t accept the utcme.(我们宁愿相信我们的错误来自于我们无法控制的因素,因为这样我们便无法改变它们,更容易接受结果。)”
36. D。根据文章开头提到的“The game f baseball has lng been wven int the fabric f American life. It is n surprise then that the baseball glve is assciated with fnd memries. (棒球运动早已融入美国人的生活。因此,棒球手套与美好的回忆联系在一起也就不足为奇了。)”以及第一段最后一句中“It is als an example f a prduct that has been perfected ver time.”来看,D项“Hwever, the baseball glve is mre than an item f emtinal value.(然而 ,棒球手套不仅仅是一件具有情感价值的物品。)”
37. C。根据“The late 19th century saw baseballs made by machine and standardized acrss the United States t be tighter and harder, and they were capable f hurting a catcher’s hands.(19世纪后期,棒球由机器制造,并在美国标准化,变得更紧、更硬,而且能伤到接球手的手。)” C项“This led t glves being designed t sften the catch.”
39. F。F项“… an pen glve design.”与空后句“This design changed little until the late 1930s(这种设计直到20世纪30年代末才发生了点变化)”相匹配,所以F项符合语境。
40. E。空前的句子“Even mre significantly, a new glve design was intrduced in 1957 …”
