    When the UNESCO Wrld Heritage Cmmittee (WHC) met frm July 16 t 31, 2021, they were tasked with addressing threats t sme f the wrld’s mst treasured sites f priceless natural and cultural heritage.     A recent study fund that ver 500 dams under cnstructin r planned wrldwide wuld be built in prtected areas, while dams threaten at least 80 Wrld Heritage Sites. The Las’ gvernment is planning t build a dam, 25 kilmeters upstream frm Luang Prabang. Given the prpsed dam’s size and lcatin, the dam will have majr envirnmental impacts n the river system and surrunding area.
