Getting hit n the head can cause a serius injury. Smetimes, even if a persn feels kay, they may have a brain injury called a cncussin (脑震荡). The test was riginally designed t test reading skills in children, but it als catches prblems with visin and eye mvements, which makes it useful fr studying cncussins. The test cnsists f a series f numbers arranged in zigzagging (锯齿) patterns n cards, which children read frm left t right as quickly as pssible. The Pennsylvania researchers tried ut the test n bxers and martial (武术) arts fighters in a study earlier this year and fund it wrked well as a predictr f head injury.
The researchers gave the fighters the test befre and after a match. Typically peple can cmplete the test faster the mre times they take it, says Laura Balcer, a lead authr f the study. But the athletes wh had experienced head injury during their fights read the cards mre than 11 secnds slwer when they tk the test a secnd time. Fighters wh had a cncussin read the cards especially prly, wrsening by 18 secnds n average.
