Chinese students always cmplain that they’re under great pressure and dn’t get enugh sleep. But they may be surprised t learn that they’re much luckier than their peers (同龄人) in Suth Krea and Japan, accrding t a recently published reprt, made by Shanghai Academy f Scial Sciences n the physical and mental health f senir high schl students in the three Asian cuntries.
Accrding t the study amng nearly 6,000 high schl, students in the three cuntries, Chinese students are the tallest but prest m physical fitness. Chinese students are n average 168.17cm, cmpared with 167.61cm fr Suth Krean students and 164.70cm fr Japanese students. Chinese students asked fr sick leave mre than students in ther cuntries. Abut 72 percent f Krean students never asked fr sick and injury leave during high schl, cmpared t 53 percent fr Japanese students and 45 percent fr Chinese students. Mrever, Chinese students drink alchl and smke earlier than Krean and Japanese students. Arund 70 percent f Chinese students have drunk alchl, cmpared t 50 percent fr Krean and Japanese students.
Accrding t the survey, Japanese and Suth Krean students suffer mre pressure than their Chinese peers. Statistics shw 16 percent f students in China said they experienced mental pressure ften ver the past year, while the numbers in Japan and Suth Krea were 33 percent and 47 percent respectively. Their wrries cme frm “study”, “future after graduatin”, “friendships” and “relatinship with their parents”. T g with stress, 57.9 percent f Krean students sleep the least, less than six hurs a day, cmpared with 46.6 percent f Japanese students and 30 percent f Chinese students.
Mre Chinese students were satisfied with their physical appearance, duble that f students in the survey frm Japan and Suth Krea. The reprt said that ver half f students in Suth Krea had tried t lse weight in the past year, while in China the figure was nly 22 percent.
