This is a prduct designed fr peple with Alzheimer’s disease.Anna: Oh yes, I saw a TV shw abut that. It was invented by a student frm New Yrk called Kenneth. He even wn an award fr it at a science fair!
Mike: Ww! Hw did he cme up with the idea?Anna: Well, his grandfather has Alzheimer’s. He frgets things and gets lst easily. Once he gt lst in the city and it tk a whle day t find him! The family was always wrrying abut him leaving the huse and had t keep an eye n him — even at night! Kenneth had been trying t find a slutin.

Anna: Well, it made him think f putting a device int a pair f scks t sense pressure. He started by drawing his ideas, and then he thught abut hw t pwer the device. Eventually, he created the device the size f a cin!Mike:Like a cin? S hw des it wrk?
Anna: He gt his grandfather t wear the scks. When his feet tuched the flr, the device sensed an increase f pressure, and a warning was sent t the by’s mbile phne — like an alarm. That way, he culd knw his grandfather was getting ut f bed withut staying up all night.
Mike:Hw amazing! What a useful inventin and caring grandsn!Anna: Yes, yu are quite right.

    4. The first phne call was abut a very shrt dialgue. On 10 March 1876, Bell made the first clear and cmplete phne call t his assistant, saying, “Mr Watsn — cme here — I want t see yu.”5. It is interesting that Bell never had a telephne in his study. It was because he wanted t be alne with his thughts and wrk.
What a useful inventin!Hw amazing (the idea was)! What an interesting dialgue!Hw interesting (the dialgue was)!...
Wrk in pairs t make the cnversatin and then act it ut.
Student A: Hey, Tm. I have heard that yu have just read a bk abut the inventin f the telephne. Is that true?Student B: Yes. It is such an interesting bk!Student A: Oh, that’s gd. Culd yu tell me smething abut the inventin? I am ging t give a presentatin abut it next Mnday.Student B: Of curse. What d yu want t knw?

Student A: In 1876. Ww! The telephne has a histry abut 140 years lng! Hw did Mr. Bell get this wnderful idea? I mean, hw was the telephne invented?Student B: Befre 1876, it was expensive and slw t exchange infrmatin with anther peple wh was far away. T imprve the efficiency f lng distance cmmunicatin, many scientists and inventrs were devted t different experiments.
Mr. Bell had been trying t invent a machine t send messages ver an electrnic wire. This eventually led t the idea f a telephne. Later, with his assistant, he finally created a device t prduce and receive sund waves using electrical signals. T be exact, the first clear and cmplete phne call was created n 10 March, 1876.Student A: He must have been very excited when he made the first phne call! Whm did he call? And what did he say?

Student B: Yes. What did he d? Was he a scientist?Student B: N, he was nt a scientist, nr an inventr. In fact, he was a wrker wh wrked with rubber.
Student A: A wrker?! Hw interesting! Tell me mre abut him, please. Student B: Mr. Macintsh was a Scttish. Well, as we all knw, it is very cmmn t have a rainy day in England r Sctland.Student A: Yes, I knw that. But what is the pint?Student B: As a wrker, Mr. Macintsh didn’t earn much mney, s he culdn’t affrd t buy an umbrella which was expensive at that time. Walking back hme in the rain day after day made him suffer frm several diseases. And an incident gave him an inspiratin.
Student A: What was that incident? Student B: One day in 1823, when Mr. Macintsh was puring a basin f melted rubber int a muld, he slipped slightly and sme drps f melted rubber splashed nt his cat. He tried t rub them away but failed. Therefre, he had t wear this dirty cat hme in the rain. Hwever, after he gt hme and tk ff the wet cat, he surprisedly nticed that the clth under the rubber stains was dry.
Student A: Oh, my gd! This wuld inspire him t invent the raincat! What a marvelus incident!Student B: Yes, it sunds like a marvelus incident. But actually, it tk many years fr the raincat t cme true.Student A: Why? What were the bstacles?
Student B: At first, Mr. Macintsh thught f brushing a layer f rubber nt his clthes, nly t find it hard t brush it smthly. Then, he experimented t prduce clth with rubber n it, nly t find the rubber wuld be destryed when the clth was made int clthes. Finally, he gt an idea. He decided t use a cmbinatin f tw layers f clth t make a cat, ne f which was nrmal while the ther with rubber n the surface. The new cat prved t be a success!
Student A: Hw wnderful! What happened next?Student B: He applied fr a patent fr his raincat, smene invested, and they set up a factry t prduce raincats. Thse raincats gained ppularity as sn as they appeared in the market.Student A: It shuld be like this. The raincat is dmed t be a great inventin!Student B: Yu are ttally right.
