Japanese als uses sme f the symbls frm the Chinese picture system. Fr example, the Chinese wrd fr fish is“yu”and the Japanese wrd is“sakana”, but bth languages write it in the same way. There are thusands f symbls in picture writing systems—yu have t learn 4,000 symbls t read Chinese.

    Languages smetimes change their writing systems. Befre 1423, the Krean language used the Chinese picture system. In 1423, the Kreans invented their wn alphabet system. Nw Krean uses an alphabet.
