It was meant t cnnect us, make us smarter and ur lives easier. And it has. But there’s at least ne crner f life where the Internet has made things s much mre difficult: gift giving.
Once upn a time, if yu were struggling t find a present fr a lved ne, there were easy ptins t fall back n — DVDs, CDs, vide games and ther physical media. This wasn’t even that lng ag, but nw it’s been snatched frm ur grasp by the Internet which ffers us the chance, at a relatively lw cst, t watch, listen t r read whatever we want, whenever we want. With everything already watched, listened t, r read, buying a present has becme near impssible.
Therefre, we all have t wrk at becming perfect gift givers, taking all factrs int cnsideratin and searching high and lw t seek ut the ideal present. If we g the extra mile, there’s less chance that the persn we have in mind has already bught what we’re cnsidering nline.
But as I nw cnsider this exact plan f actin, I’m thinking perhaps it’s nt all that bad. Maybe the Internet is delivering us a lessn, firm but fair: the era f half-baked present purchasing is ver and it’s time t g hard r g hme.
In this era f immediate satisfactin, if yu want t give smene a useful present, yu d have t actually g t the effrt f surcing smething nice fr them. Perhaps that’s making fr a mre rewarding gift experience fr all invlved. And perhaps it als means fewer gifts that are given as an excuse and end up being unused.

A. Numerus gift ptins.B. Relative high cst fr presents.
C. Limited ffer frm digital giants.D. Easy access t the Internet media.
30. What des the authr suggest readers d?
A. Purchase unused gifts.B. Pick ut a satisfactry present.
C. Buy fewer gifts as an excuse.D. Make mre valuable presents.
31. What’s the main idea f the passage?
A. The Internet has greatly imprved ur lives in every aspect.
B. The Internet has made gift giving a mre rewarding experience.
C. The Internet has made the prcess f finding the perfect gift difficult.
D. The Internet has reduced the need fr physical media in entertainment.

Like humans, when rats experience places and events, specific neural (神经系统的) activity patterns are activated in the hippcampus (海马体), an area f the brain respnsible fr spatial (空间的) memry. In the study, the researchers develped a brain-machine interface (BMI), which allws them t test whether a rat can activate hippcampal activity t imagine ging t a lcatin.
First, sme rats were placed int a virtual reality envirnment and were rewarded when they traveled thrugh this envirnment twards their gals by running n a treadmill (跑步机). At the same time, the BMI system recrded the rat’s hippcampal activity. The researchers culd see which neurns were activated when the rat navigated the envirnment t reach each gal. Next, researchers discnnected the treadmill s that the rats culd still see the virtual reality envirnment, but their running had n impact. By reappearing the brain activity they’d shwn during the frmer activities, the rats culd g t reward lcatins using just their thughts.
“Althugh it’s still unclear what the rat is experiencing while it’s traveling, the team has dne a wnderful jb f shwing rats can vluntarily reactivate mental maps f familiar places,” said Shayna, a cgnitive neurscientist.
The research als shws that the BMI can be used t explre hippcampal activity, prviding a new system fr studying this imprtant brain regin. Because the BMI is increasingly used in prsthetics (假肢), this new wrk als pens up the pssibility f designing new prsthetic devices based n the same principles.
32. What is the purpse f the new study?
A. T explre whether rats have the ability t imagine.
B. T cmpare hw humans and rats prcess spatial memry.
C. T recrd hw rats navigate in an unfamiliar envirnment.
D. T prve the hippcampus is assciated with spatial memry in rats.

B. They shwed abnrmal brain activity.
C. They culd reach reward places using mental maps.
D. They were at a lss in the virtual reality envirnment.
