    Self-cntrl is a skill that children need t succeed in schl, scially and emtinally. The develpment f self-cntrl begins at birth and cntinues thrughut ur lives. As babies, we have little r n cntrl ver ur behavirs and emtins, but as we get lder, with the help f parents r caregivers, we learn hw t take turns, hw t pay attentin in class, stick t a challenging task, and restrain(制止) frm hitting anther child. The right way, accrding t Dweck, is t praise the prcess that children are invlved in: making an effrt, using learning strategies (策略) and imprving. This way they will becme mastery-riented (i. e. interested in getting better at smething) and will achieve mre.
    Psychlgists have been testing these theries. Students were taught that if they left their cmfrt zne and learned smething new and difficult, they’d be mre intelligent. These students made faster prgress than a cntrl grup. In anther study, children frm an underperfrming (不佳的) schl had trainings n their grwth mindset techniques fr a year.
    The results were staggering. They came tp in tests, beating children frm much better schls. These children had previusly felt that making an effrt was a sign f stupidity, but they came t see it as the key t learning.

    At the age f 13, Prisha Shrff saw smething that made her want t change the wrld. She was in the car with her family n the way hme, when a big wildfire came in sight and frced them t turn back.
    “I saw it in persn,” she says. “The air pllutin was s bad that we were tld nt t step utside f ur car, r utside f ur huse. ”
