    Ple says befre the cuntry’s 15-year-ln civil war,the 100,000-acre park was hme t ver 4,000 elephants. Hwever,by the time the cnflict ended in 1992,abut 90 percent f them had been killed fr ivry t help finance weapns(武器)and meat t feed the sldiers. Of the less than 200 survivrs., ver 50 percent f adult females had n tusks. Therefre,it is nt surprising that the parks tuskless elephant ppulatin has grwn greatly.
    This is nt the first time researchers have bserved a great change in the ppulatin f elephants. At Zambia’s Suth Luangwa Natinal Park and Lupande game Management Area, areas whse s were heavily hunted in the 1970s and 1980s, 35% f elephants 25 years ld r abve and13% f thse yunger than 25 are nw withut tusks. A study published in 2008 fund that the number f tuskless females at the Ruaha Natinal Park in Tanzania went frm 10.5 percent in 1969 t almst 40 percent in 1989, largely due t illegal hunting fr Ivry.
    The recent ban n ivry in bth the US and China shuld help get rid f, r at least reduce elephant hunting. Hwever, scientists are nt sure hw lng it will take the elephants with a higher rate f tuskless females t change the trend.
