After nearly fur decades in the classrm and traveling the wrld, Phyllis Duvall Bailey knew this perhaps better than anyne else.

Starting in 2015, Bailey, 82, set ut t take her students t the UN headquarters in New Yrk City t give them a “Windw Seat t the Wrld”, and thus transfrmed them int glbal citizens.
Indeed, it is a great pprtunity t give students natinal and internatinal expsure. Since Bailey saw the students as future leaders, she was desperate t expse them t the UN, its missin, its agendas and its supprting rganizatins.
She decided t give $ 10, 000 f her wn mney t pay fr the late June trip, enugh t take 10 students aged 14—17 n a fur-night stay in New Yrk. There, they had guided turs f the UN headquarters and the New Yrk City harbr.
It was Quenyaun Payne’s first trip t the city and Taylr Sappingtn’s secnd. Payne, 17, is a senir at Mceachem High Schl in the state f Gergia, the US. Sappingtn, 15, is a junir at Therrell High Schl in Atlanta, Gergia, the US. Bth said their visit t the UN was inspiring.
“I like nt nly hw cuntries are wrking tgether but they’re fcused n cmmn gals like glbal warming and keeping peace, ” Sappingtn said.
Payne cmmented, “The trip was amazing. I, m s thankful Mrs. Bailey made it pssible. ”
Actually, there are a lt f peple grateful fr the retired teacher’s effrt. The United Natins Assciatin f Atlanta recently gave Bailey its Humanitarian Award, and the United Natins Assciatin f the US awarded her with the Natinal Educatin Award.
But Bailey wasn’t lking fr recgnitin r even gratitude. Over thse fur days in New Yrk, she’d already felt it and seen it in the eyes f thse 10 teenagers, Payne and Sappingtn included, wh made the trip.
