Grammar: It as an empty subject
Lk at the sentences and answer the questins. Sentences (a) and (c) are frm the reading passage.
1. What des “it” refer t in sentences (a) and (c)?
“It” refers t “nt t take any chances” in sentence (a) and “t remember that Ebla desn’t respect natinal bundaries” in sentence (c).
2. What is the difference between the sentences in each grup? Why des the authr chse t use sentences (a) and (c) instead f (b) and (d)?
The first sentences in each grup use “it” as an empty subject at the beginning f the sentences. The reasn why sentences (a) and (c) are chsen is that the sentences are kept balanced and the key infrmatin f the sentences is emphasised.

it 作为形式主语主要分为三种情况：
1. 代表不定式根据句子的谓语又可以分为四种类型：
1) be + 形容词 + 不定式

3) be + 介词短语 + 不定式

4) 及物动词 + 宾语 + 不定式
