When Mary Mre began her high schl in 1951, her mther tld her, “Be sure and take a typing curse s when this shw business thing desn't wrk ut, yu'll have smething t rely n." Unlike her 1995 autbigraphy, After All, her secnd bk is less abut life as an award winning actress and mre abut living with diabetes (糖尿病). A new study shws students wh write ntes by hand during lectures perfrm (表现) better n exams than thse wh use laptps (笔记本电脑).
Students are increasingly using laptps fr nte-taking because f speed and legibility(清晰度). But the research has fund laptp users are less able t remember and apply the cncepts (概念) they have been taught.
Researchers did experiment that aimed(旨在)t find ut whether using a laptp increased the tenancy t make nse mindlessly by taking dwn wrd fr wrd what the prfessr said.
In the first experiment, students were given either a laptp r pen and paper. They listened t the same lectures and were tld t use their usual nte-taking skills. Thirty minutes after the talk, they were examined n their ability t remember facts and n hw well they understd cncepts.
The researchers fund that laptp users tk twice as many ntes as thse wh wrte by hand. Hwever, the typists perfrmed wrse at remembering and applying the cncepts. Bth grups scred similarly when it came t memrizing facts.
The researchers' reprt said, “While mre ntes are beneficial (有益的), if the ntes are taken mindlessly, as is mre likely the case n a laptp, the benefit disappears."
