As she eyed the area frm a distance, panic set in. Jbie picked up the pace, her heart punding luder the clser she gt. When she reached the place she’d left them, her heart sank. “My lucky spikes are gne!” she screamed. Jbie’s teammates helped her search the whle park, but there was n sign f her lucky spikes. “S lng, gld.” Jbie was hpeless, tears welling up in her eyes.
The next day, Jbie turned up in a new pair f spikes fr the champinships. Uneasily, Jbie shuffled her feet. Fr her, the lss f her lucky spikes meant the lss f the gld medal. “Next up is the girls’ 100-meter hurdles,” said the annuncer. Jbie tk several deep breaths, and her teammates encuraged her as she walked dwn t the starting line. Feeling inspired, Jbie decided t try her best. In a flash, Jbie was ff and cleared hurdle after hurdle. She gt clser and clser, and cheers brke ut. Wearing a wide smile, Jbie whispered, “N lucky spikes. Lucky me.”

W: Welcme t ur university. Here is sme infrmatin that may be useful t yu. The Student Welfare Office is nrmally pen frm 4 p.m. till 8 p.m., Mnday t Friday. Tday and tmrrw, it will be pen frm abut 9 a.m. If yu have any prblems, the teachers and vlunteers there will help yu. We als give ut university identity cards that yu will need t jin the library. And they will allw yu t get discunts at a number f lcal shps and places f entertainment, such as clubs and cinemas.
On Mnday and Tuesday f next week, secnd-year students will be running a bk sale in the canteen frm 10 a.m. t 3 p.m. Many f the bks n yur first-year reading list will be available, and we suggest yu shuld lk there first befre spending t much n new bks.
The university canteen pens frm 7:30 a.m. t 7:30 p.m., selling ht meals, fairly cheap. There is a basic ckery curse starting next week. If yu dn’t knw hw t bil an egg, this is fr yu. It’s always full, s get yur name n the list in the Welfare Office nw!
