Bumblebee (大黄蜂) ppulatins have declined (下降) by 90 percent in the past 20 years. The decline f the bumblebees is highly cncerning as they are significant fr ecsystems. They pllinate (授粉) flwers and crps. If their ppulatins were t cntinue t decline, crps wuld nt be able t prduce fruits and vegetables. Despite being small, they are imprtant t nature’s balance.
And nw, a new study published in the Frntiers in Bee Science has fund that the rising heat caused by glbal warming might be a reasn fr the decrease in numbers acrss the glbe. “The decline in ppulatins and ranges f several species f bumblebees may be explained by issues f verheating f the nests,” Peter Kevan f the University f Guelph in Canada and lead authr f the study said in a statement.
Kevan and his clleagues decided t take a clser lk at the facts relating t bumblebee ppulatins acrss the wrld. Kevan and the clleagues lked at 180 years f literature n the species and fund ne cmmn reasn acrss all bumblebee species that they can survive in temperatures up t 36 degrees Celsius, but the perfect temperature fr nests is between 28 t 32 degrees Celsius. They are unlikely t be able t adjust themselves t the extent that rising temperatures due t climate change require, the study reprts. While individual bees may be able t deal with increased heat better than thers, the study ntes that if nests are t ht, the grups will nt survive.
“The effect f high nest temperatures has nt been studied very much, which is surprising,” Kevan said. Similar studies have been dne n hneybees (蜜蜂), anther threatened yet highly imprtant species. This suggests further that heat stress is a majr factr in bees’ verall decline.
Althugh the studies led by Kevan have limitatins, the ptential effects fr bumblebee health and cnversatin are large and lng-term.

A. They raised bumblebees t bserve them.
B. They fcused n studying individual bumblebees.
C. They cnducted experiments n bumblebees.
D. They studied literature n bumblebees.
14. What is the authr’s attitude tward Kevan’s studies?
A. Unclear.B. Supprtive.C. Dubtful.D. Uninterested.
15. Which can be a suitable title fr the text?
A. Big Results fr Small Bumblebees
B. Bumblebees Prtectin Inspires Scientists
