In rder t test the thery, the scientists did an experiment n plants. They grew a number f plants t the age f fur weeks. Then they tuched them with a paintbrush every 12 hurs ver a 36-hur perid.
They fund that as a respnse t the tuch, the mitchndria(线粒体)in the plants had been partly destryed. The mitchndria, as Science Alert nted, are the "pwerhuse f the cell. The mittchndria prduce energy fr the rest f the cell in bth animals and plants.
If this "pwerhuse" is weakened, the plants will lse a large amunt f energy that shuld have supprted their grwth.
Whelan further explained t Science Daily, "If the tuching is repeated, then plant grwth is reduced by up t 30 percent.
Althugh the prcess des have a strng effect n plants, usually the plants survive. Tuching changes the plants, but it's nt necessarily a bad change.
Accrding t Science Alert, frequent tuching r mving plants will make them grw shrter than ther nes.
The researchers believe this change, in sme ways, culd be helpful. It may help plants fight threats t their health such as insects and bad weather.
The new research findings have led t a deeper understanding f the plants' respnse t tuching. And the research might "pen up new ways t reduce sensitivity(敏感性)and ptimize(优化) grwth in the future", Science Alert reprted.
    34. Why dn't plants like t be tuched?
    A. Plants' genes will be changed.
    B. Plants will grw much taller than thers.
    C. Plants grwth will be reduced by up t 40 percent.
    D. Plants will lsc the ability t fight against bad weather.
