Mre than ne billin peple currently live in envirnments where water is in shrt supply, making water ne f the mst highly prized natural resurces. Scientists are always searching fr ways t increase access t this valuable resurce. They may have fund a slutin in an unlikely area:ne f the driest places Earth.
The Namib Desert in Africa is ne f the wrld’s driest places, while the Namib beetle is a unique rganism that grws in this envirnment because f its amazing physical adaptatin. The wings f the Namib beetle are filled with bumps and grves(槽)that help it cllect water frm the air. The tp f each bump is smth like glass and attracts water. But the slpes f each bump and the grves in between the bumps have waxy(光滑的)surfaces that repel water. Each time the fg ccurs, the beetle psitins its bdy at a 45-degree angle t the wind. as the wind pushes the fg acrss the desert, each bump n the beetle’s back cllects water. When enugh misture has been cllected frm the fg,a drp rlls ff the bumps int the waxy grves and then int the muth f the beetle.
Scientists are using the Namib beetles wing design as a guide fr creating their wn water-cllectin surfaces. They have inserted dzens f glass glbes int thin layers f wax. Similar t the bumps and grves n the wings f the beetle, the smth glass bubbles cllect water, while the wax repels it By placing the glass-and-wax panels in envirnments with high-misture air, the scientists think they will be able t cllect water.
The Namib beetle’s wing design may als prvide unexpected slutins t ther prblems. In areas where thick fg causes chas, panels f these water-gathering surfaces may be able t remve the fg. This culd ptentially reduce travel delays at airprts and prevent fg-related accidents n radways. It seems that studying this little beetle may lead t a variety f benefits fr humans.
    1. What will the Namib beetle d when fg appears in the desert?
    A. It will release a waxy substance t cver its back.
    B. It will place its bdy in a particular way t cllect water.
    C. It will create bumps and grves n its wings.
    D. It will pen its muth t drink the water in the air.
    2. The authr fcuses n a unique feature f the Namib beetle in rder t highlight hw the beetle______.
    A. culd serve as a surce f water fr desert travelers.
    B. struggles t survive in the dry part f the wrld.
    C. uses its wings t stay cl in a dry envirnment.
    D. is able t get access t water in the absence f rain.
    3. What’s the writing purpse f this passage?
    A. T prve that water can be btained frm mist air.
    B. T explain hw the Namib beetle adapts t living in a hstile envirnment.
    C. T shw hw peple can apply designs frm nature t creating slutins t glbal prblems.
    D. T stress that water is a valuable resurce in many areas n earth.

Each time the fg ccurs. the muth f the beetl可知每当有雾时,甲虫就会将身体与风成45度角。
Scientists are using the namib beetle’s wing design as a guide fr creating their wn water-cllectin surfaces.
It seems that studying this little beetle may lead t a variety f benefits fr humans.
